Job description

Midland Care Connection

Midland Care Connection is a not-for-profit, community-based organization dedicated to helping older adults and seriously ill individuals stay independent and supported in their homes. Established in 1978, we offer a full continuum of care, including hospice, palliative care, home health, grief and loss counseling, and our signature PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) program. Our mission centers on "meeting individual needs through innovative care solutions," and we serve people across multiple counties in northeast Kansas.

Finance Department

Responsible for managing the organization’s money and ensuring it can sustainably provide care services. This includes creating and overseeing budgets, tracking revenue and expenses, processing payroll, and handling billing for services like hospice or home health care. They also manage payments to vendors and ensure day-to-day financial operations run smoothly.

In addition, the department ensures compliance with healthcare regulations and nonprofit financial standards by preparing financial reports, audits, and tax documents. They analyze financial data to help leadership make informed decisions, plan for future growth, and maintain the organization’s financial health so it can continue serving patients and the community.

Controller

Manages the general ledger, supervises accounting staff, and oversees processes like accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. They are responsible for preparing financial statements, tracking budgets, and making sure all transactions are recorded correctly. The controller also leads month-end and year-end closings and ensures the organization’s financial records are audit-ready.

In addition, the controller plays a key role in compliance and strategy. They ensure adherence to nonprofit and healthcare financial regulations, coordinate audits, and help develop internal controls to prevent errors or fraud. They also work closely with leadership to analyze financial data, support budgeting decisions, and help maintain the financial stability of the organization.

Required  

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Several years of progressive accounting or finance experience (including supervisory experience)
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting
  • Experience managing general ledger, month-end close, and financial statements
  • Proficiency with accounting software and financial systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and ensure accuracy in financial reporting

Preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Experience in nonprofit or healthcare finance
  • Prior experience in a controller, assistant controller, or senior accounting leadership role
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and audit processes in healthcare or nonprofit settings
  • Experience developing internal controls and financial policies
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
  • Experience working with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning
