About the Position
A correctional facility in Crook County is seeking a compassionate, professional Registered Nurse (RN) to provide medical care for individuals in custody. Under the direction of the Medical Director and Public Health Director, the RN is responsible for inmate medical screenings and assessments, medication administration, medical recordkeeping, and the coordination of healthcare services. This position works closely with correctional staff while maintaining high standards of patient care, confidentiality, and safety. This position does not require certification through the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).
Essential Job Duties
Patient Care
Perform initial and ongoing inmate health assessments.
Complete initial health assessments for all inmates after ten days of incarceration.
Monitor physical and mental health status and identify changes in condition.
Assess and monitor inmates undergoing drug and alcohol detoxification.
Respond to inmate medical requests within 48 hours.
Triage medical needs and coordinate referrals to outside healthcare providers.
Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions.
Medication Administration
Administer and document medications.
Maintain Medication Administration Records (MARs).
Verify and maintain appropriate medication supplies.
Properly dispose of unused medications or return them to the pharmacy.
Medical Records & Inventory
Maintain accurate electronic medical records (OCHIN).
File booking paperwork, laboratory results, diagnostic reports, and outside medical records.
Maintain inventory of medical supplies and over-the-counter medications.
Monitor expiration dates and order supplies as needed.
Monitor biohazard waste disposal.
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate inmate medical concerns with the Medical Director, Jail Supervisor, Correctional Deputies, and pharmacy staff.
Provide medical information for inmate transfers.
Release records only with proper authorization.
Attend meetings as requested.
Training & Compliance
Train correctional deputies on delegated medication administration and treatments in accordance with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
Stay current on best practices, education, and healthcare recommendations.
Ensure confidentiality and respect for all individuals.
Ensure medical cabinets and treatment areas remain secure.
Qualifications
Applicants must have:
High school diploma or GED.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Current Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Current CPR certification.
Minimum age of 21.
Valid Oregon driver's license by date of hire.
U.S. citizenship or the ability to obtain citizenship within the timeframe allowed under Oregon Administrative Rules.
Ability to obtain CJIS Security Clearance.
Ability to pass a criminal background investigation, employment history review, and pre-employment drug screening.
Final candidates may be required to provide official transcripts.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when exposed to biohazards.
Work Environment
Office and correctional facility setting.
Frequent interaction with incarcerated individuals.
Exposure to biohazards.
High level of public and inmate contact.
Position is subject to 24-hour call-back for urgent inmate medical needs.
Correctional deputies remain present during inmate medical encounters requiring security.
Additional Information
Exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
