Job description

The Receiving Manager is responsible for leading all inbound receiving operations within the distribution center. This position oversees the receiving team, ensures the efficient and accurate receipt of inbound product, maintains inventory integrity, and promotes a safe, organized, and productive work environment. The Receiving Manager is accountable for departmental performance, process improvement, employee development, and cross-functional collaboration to support operational excellence and customer satisfaction.


Essential Functions

  • Plan, direct, and oversee all daily receiving operations to ensure inbound product is received accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
  • Supervise, coach, develop, and evaluate receiving team members while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure timely unloading, inspection, verification, system receipt, labeling, and put-away of inbound inventory.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy by investigating receiving discrepancies, shortages, damages, overages, and vendor issues, partnering with Purchasing and Inventory Control to resolve them promptly.
  • Ensure all receiving transactions are accurately completed in Eclipse and that required documentation is complete and maintained.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve receiving processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Monitor departmental performance using key performance indicators (KPIs), including receiving accuracy, dock-to-stock time, productivity, damage rates, and backlog, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving area in compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety observations, coach safe work practices, and promptly address safety concerns.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained on equipment, receiving procedures, inventory control practices, and company policies.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Inventory Control, Warehouse Operations, Delivery, and Branch Operations to ensure efficient product flow throughout the distribution center.
  • Assist with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, performance management, corrective action, and succession planning in partnership with Human Resources and the Operations Manager.
  • Support inventory audits, cycle counts, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize work and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced distribution environment.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control, receiving processes, and material handling equipment.
  • Experience using warehouse management or ERP systems (Eclipse experience preferred).
  • Proficient with RF scanners and standard computer applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and continuous process improvement.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of warehouse receiving or distribution experience.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently bend, squat, kneel, reach, climb, and twist.
  • Ability to safely operate material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and exposure to dust.
