Job description

Innovative Livestock Services (ILS) is a diversified agricultural company built around cattle feeding, crop production, and allied business services. Innovative Livestock Services is seeking a highly motivated, self-starter to serve as the Assistant Manager at ILS Feeders located in Larned, Kansas. The successful candidate will help facilitate the daily execution of departmental operations at the feedlot including the Feed Mill, Feeding, Animal Health, Yard Maintenance, and Office Administration.
Managerial Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Feedlot Operations and the Location Manager
  • Aid in the development, management, and leadership of the various feedlot departments
  • Work with Nutritionists, Veterinarians, Vendors, and other outside consultants to maximize animal health, performance, and profitability
  • Prioritize the growth and development of ILS Feeders Personnel
  • Continue to streamline and innovate Standard Operating Procedures at ILS Feeders
  • Build, evaluate, and accept responsibility for operating and capital expenditure budgets
  • Work with the Cattle Marketing Manager to optimize cattle endpoints
  • Collaborate with the ILS Research and Development team to execute research projects
  • Communicate with the Cattle Procurement Team to provide cattle quality feedback
  • Provide support and knowledge to customers feeding cattle with ILS Feeders
  • Proudly represent ILS Feeders and ILS at local, state, and national meetings
  • Promote and ensure a safe and healthy work environment for ILS Feeders Personnel
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory issues related to the environment and safety

ILS Feeders Startup Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with Location Manager on final build inspections and ensuring operations are ready to place cattle in 2027
  • Work with Location Manager to Hire Management Team (Feed Manager, Cattle Manager, Maintenance Manager, Office Personnel)
  • Work with each department manager to hire department personnel
  • Work with Department Managers and Vendors to setup working facilities (Mill, Shop, Hospitals, Processing Barns)
  • Evaluate hiring needs based off head count increase
  • Help out where needed to ensure operations move forward daily

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • College Degree or 5-7 years experience in the cattle feeding industry
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills
  • Exemplary communication skills
  • Passion for being a team player
  • A good understanding of OSHA/HACCP guidelines is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with feedyard accounting software (Micro Beef or Turnkey) is preferred
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) proficiency is highly-preferred
