Job description

Position Summary

Manages analytics support staff for Distribution Planning. Manages the analytics, reporting and technology needs of Distribution Planning. Manages the creation of regulatory reports and filings as required for Distribution Planning. Oversees the administration of various software systems utilized by the organization and oversees the integration and development of new tools.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Engineering and Analytics - Manage the daily activities of the analytical support staff to meet the requirements of each functional area within Distribution Planning. Oversee both historical and forward-looking quantitative studies. Provide leadership and direction in the development of generation modeling analyses to independently evaluate the activities of Xcel Energy's operating companies. Serve as project manager for emerging analytics initiatives and coordinating work across multi-departmental teams.

  • Reporting - Manage the regulatory reporting requirements for Distribution, including regularly scheduled reports, associated data requests, and any ad hoc data requests. Work with the department heads to ensure the data collected continues to be valuable and utilized. Implement enhancements to improve data management, integrity, effectiveness of the reports, and facilitate the development of new reports.

  • Regulatory - Oversees Distribution Planning support of state and federal regulatory activities. Ensure communication of state and federal regulatory decisions, timely reporting, drafting and reviewing testimony, and provide general coordination.

  • Data Governance - Coordinate with enterprise partners on the development of a data governance strategy and oversee the implementation of that strategy across Distribution Planning.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, computer science, business or related field required.

  • Seven years of experience with data governance, data stewardship, data quality management, data management or analytics.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, project management, leadership, interpersonal, and analytic skills.

Preferred Characteristics

  • Experience in distribution planning.

  • Experience in power flow modeling tools and load forecasting tools, Databricks and PowerBI.

  • Master's degree in business administration desirable.

  • Experience in regulatory area desirable.

  • Knowledge of FERC and Energy Information Administration (EIA) reporting requirements preferred.

  • Preference to be given to applicants with a background in the Operations Business Unit.
