The engineer will work closely with utility stakeholders and EPE leadership to develop and perform computer modeling, technical analysis, and engineering studies related to electric distribution systems. Responsibilities include conducting distribution planning studies, short circuit and protection coordination studies, system design evaluations, cost-benefit and alternatives analyses, generation interconnection reviews, and assessments of distributed energy resource (DER) impacts. The engineer will prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations while serving as an embedded member of the client's planning team to help address system reliability, capacity, and grid modernization challenges.
Responsibilities
How you can make an impact:
  • Provide client support on electrical theory, technical problem-solving, code compliance, and other technical subject matter.
  • Perform classic distribution planning studies including load growth projections based on historical trends, power flow studies in multiple software environments, planning criteria mitigation studies, and alternative analysis.
  • Identify expected system impacts from the interconnection of distributed energy resource technologies and determine appropriate and cost-effective mitigation measures where necessary.
  • Perform research and analysis work related to the proliferation of distributed energy resources and distribution automation capabilities including solar, wind, storage, electric vehicles, conservation voltage reduction, automated circuit restoration, and other emerging technologies.
  • Prepare reports, letters, one-line diagrams, and maps to communicate study results.
  • Process, generate, and maintain data as required for other engineering related studies.
  • Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives.
  • Participates in multi-functional teams to obtain input, address comments, and perform studies.
  • Assists in developing tools, processes, and procedures that enhance engineering study completion.
