Job description

Job Title: Overhead Foreman
Department: Operations
Reports To: General Foreman
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Work Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week.
Location: Alexandria, VA - Onsite
The Overhead Foreman is a experienced position in the construction and maintenance of electrical overhead distribution systems. You will work at multiple locations and may also require travel to another state, depending on customer demands.
Essential Functions:
  • Work safely while performing new construction or maintenance work of energized and de-energized overhead work.
  • Manage crew members.
  • Mentor less experienced employees in safe and productive work procedures.
  • Lead and teach hot stick work on energized lines.
  • Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings.
  • Have a working knowledge of all aspects of line work.
  • String overhead wire.
  • Set poles and anchors.
  • Install transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  • Troubleshoot problems and manage troubleshooting in primary and secondary systems.
  • Replace cutout fuses and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  • Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
  • Perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Can identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
  • Must be familiar with induced voltage.
  • Sag wire.
  • Can phase a circuit through a substation.
  • Can identify and locate puller and tensioner setups.
  • Must understand grounding procedures.
  • Work at heights or confined spaces.
  • Install and remove PPE and cover up.
  • Can climb different types of structures (wood, steel) and have the necessary tools to do so.
  • Must understand how to safely operate equipment.
  • Must understand how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
  • Plan safe work based on a job print or work order.
  • Understand how to obtain a one shot on a recloser.
  • Can safely perform a reconductoring job.
  • Willingness to glove/work live high voltage distribution power lines.
  • Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers.
  • Understand how to use a load bust tool.
  • Properly ask for and take line clearances.
  • Identify and locate puller and tensioner setups.
  • Have a working knowledge of line protection devices.
  • Understand flag and tag procedures.
  • Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
  • Does all other related work to complete the job.

Work Environment:

You are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a journey-level lineman engaged in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of distribution electrical systems
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel and work for extended periods in multiple locations
  • Lift more than 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested
