BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P ZC T&D OPERATIONS Department of the P T&D OPERATIONS Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Manager Supervisor)

JOB FUNCTION:

Provides overall leadership and professional guidance, sets strategic direction and garners necessary support to achieve the Operating Division's goals and objectives of providing superior technical services. Leads and oversees the Division's succession planning goals and efforts and ensures optimal staffing and utilization of resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Identifies and sets goals and objectives, and formulates the strategic direction to meet operating needs and enhance the core competence of the Division. Provides overall leadership and professional guidance; identifies resource requirements; sets performance and service standards; and evaluates achievement of goals and objectives in line with corporate goals and objectives. Oversees and directs optimal utilization of the Division's resources and ensures availability to meet changing operating needs. Is accountable for the Division's performance and accomplishments.
  • Formulates the Division's succession planning goals, objectives and plans, and directs the implementation of plans to continuously enhance workforce quality and the Division's professional capability and expertise, and provide continuity and long-term sustenance. Develops career development and staff training plans and implements training.
  • Provides technical and professional advice to the team/work groups and across the Company. Identifies appropriate systems and processes for increased productivity and effectiveness.
  • Carries out miscellaneous projects and assignments as required from time to time.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable (overhead and/or underground) transmission and distribution engineering standards and work practices; inspection and maintenance program development/implementation; training program development/implementation.
  • Good working knowledge of budgeting and forecasting processes (including annual Operating Forecast; Capital Budgets; vehicle, equipment, tools; office furniture and equipment; etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement; Accident Prevention Manual; General Information Manual, etc.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, database management, etc.)

Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrated in-depth analytical and administrative skills required for such tasks as preparing, monitoring and analyzing forecasts; preparing performance appraisals and conducting interviews; and carrying out company/department policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated supervisory/leadership skills including effective written, oral and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the ability to work with a variety of individuals; and the willingness and ability to train
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for driving positions statedย in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Must be willing and able to be transported by helicopters

Experience Requirements

  • Extensive (7+) years of field or design experience in the construction, installation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution facilities and equipment.
  • 5+ years of related work experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • 1-2 years of related experience in preparing operating budgets and managing expenses
