Position Summary

The Inventory Control & Distribution Manager is a proactive, hands-on leader responsible for overseeing the receipt, tracking, storage, and distribution of inventory. This role ensures that all inventory is accurately accounted for, properly maintained, readily accessible, and managed in alignment with the organization's inventory control processes and operational objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages short term and long term strategic plans for areas of oversight including Wholesale Nursery, Plant Dock and Warehouse to ensure operational goals are achieved.
  • Establishes functional polices and makes tactical decisions within overall strategic direction of the organization with guidance from the Executive Team.
  • Leads Warehouse Supervisor and Dispatcher to ensure smooth and efficient operation of warehouse and delivery system; ensuring proper levels of inventory including implementing systems and processes to replenish spent inventory, arrange for return or disposal, prevent shrinkage and maintaining accurate inventory.
  • Partners with Purchasing Manager and Production Managers to ensure product availability for internal and external customer orders.
  • Oversees Nursery Operations through supervision and planning of activities for the Nursery Supervisor.
  • Responsible for oversight of quality and cost efficiency of Dock operations through supervision Dock Supervisor.
  • Leads regular strategy meetings with Supervisors that: focus on goals, processes and continuous process improvement.
  • Stays current with changing industry standards, plans and recommends appropriate revisions to current operations.
  • Works with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and adhere to annual budget and financial goals that incorporates revenue, cost of goods, labor and other expenses.
  • Manages annual budget for seasonal and non-seasonal peaks and flow; managing inventories; understanding capital budget needs in each department; budgeting appropriately for new or replacement items.
  • Partners with Human Resources Director to project staffing needs, reduce turnover and Build a Great Environment for Our Employees.
  • Delivers regular reports and communication to Executive Team regarding strategic plans, assuring they are consistent with the overall company planning; status and progress of revenue and expenses, making recommendations as needed to improve operations.
  • Represents leadership and helps drive company directives as a member of the Operations Team.
  • Proactively work to resolve conflict, and solve problems.
  • Create an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation leading three department supervisors to achieve quality of product, efficiency, and quality of work.
  • Works with Facilities Manager to ensure appropriate facility upkeep and maintenance.
  • Follows company safety policies and procedures at all times.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises Nursery Supervisor, Dock Supervisor and Warehouse Supervisor and indirectly supervises staff in all areas. With support from Human Resources, includes hiring, promotion, demotion, discipline, and termination as needed along with being ultimately responsible for annual performance reviews of employees
  • Ultimate responsibility for the development, productivity and efficiency of approximately 20-30 employees.
  • Works with Supervisors to orient new team members providing hands on training and establishing expectations.
  • Provides mentoring, coaching, constructive feedback, development and training to Supervisors and staff.
  • Fosters a positive team-oriented work environment, resolving issues as they arise.
  • Leads a culture of safety and holds employees accountable to company safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Ensures completion and approval of timecards including timeliness and accurate for payroll.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed both indoors and outdoors during all seasons.
  • May have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather (rain, snow, heat or cold).
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required for duties such as equipment operation that expose the individual to elevated noise levels.

Education, Certification and License:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent experience in Supply Chain, Distribution, Warehouse Management or related field is required. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with good driving record is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7-10 yearsโ€™ experience working in Inventory Control, Warehousing or Supply Chain is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of management experience is required.
  • Proven success in budgeting, forecasting and driving strategic goals is required.

Specific Requirements:

  • Leadership skills including staff development, problem solving, conflict resolution and Employee and Customer Relations.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of warehouse distribution and inventory practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to implement and continually improve processes and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize and strategically manage multiple departments with a varying seasonal workload.
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Outlook (email), Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent verbal, written and customer-focused communication skills.
  • Experience with change management and leading change.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand and walk for long periods of time throughout the day.
  • Squat, stoop, or kneel and lift objects.
  • Full extension of arms above head and in front of body.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries and pushes/pulls weights of up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision and fine motor skills required for use of computers and creating communication.

  • This is a Full-Time Year Round, Exempt position.
  • Typical work hours vary Monday through Saturday during hours of operation (typically 6:30am โ€“ 5:00pm); approximately 50-60 hours per week).
