The Location

Taconic Biosciences is seeking a Director Logistics & Distribution to join our dedicated team in Germantown, NY. This position will be partially remote (1 day per week work from home) during the initial 6 months / onboarding period, with the potential to work remotely up to 2 days a week depending on business needs.

The Pay Range

$157,000 - $163,000. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors. These factors include geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions and could exceed the advertised salary range; however, the upper end of the range is not guaranteed to be offered.

The Role

As the Director of Logistics & Distribution, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing all aspects of inbound storage, outbound transportation, and distribution operations. Your responsibilities will span managing five warehouse facilities nationwide, ensuring efficient receiving, storing, and movement of goods to production. You will spearhead the shipping of finished products to a global customer base via ground and air transportation partners, while collaborating closely with Procurement, Production, and Commercial teams to streamline supply chain processes. Additionally, you will lead transformational projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and maintaining high standards of inventory accuracy and customer satisfaction. Your leadership will extend to building and nurturing relationships with transportation vendors and overseeing a small dedicated transportation fleet, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Core Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement logistics and distribution to customer strategies that align with the organization’s short-and long-term business goals.
  • Lead the planning and management of the annual distribution and warehouse operations budget.
  • Support contract development and negotiation efforts to manage vendor relationships and service agreements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Distribution providers, customs agents, and air/ground freight carriers to meet key logistics performance targets.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and performance management of third-party transportation and distribution partners.
  • Oversee the freight payment process, ensuring accurate invoicing and timely vendor payments.
  • Oversee receiving, storing, picking, packing, and the internal movement of goods from five U.S.-based warehouse operations to production areas.
  • Manage outbound shipping operations from four U.S. sites, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of finished products to customers worldwide via ground and air freight.
  • Serve as a key partner to Procurement and Production to support the flow of raw materials, and to Commercial teams to coordinate product delivery planning and execution.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to address and resolve disruptions in material arrivals and customer deliveries, maintaining service continuity.
  • Develop and report on logistics performance metrics (e.g., inventory accuracy, days on hand, waste, OTIF, transportation cost, sustainability), and drive continuous improvement.
  • Drive transformational projects focused on implementing new systems, technologies, and process improvements across logistics and distribution functions.
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry standards.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team while fostering collaboration with cross-functional partners across Procurement, Production, Customer Experience, and Sales.
  • Oversee the operations of a dedicated internal transportation fleet (1–4 trucks), ensuring reliability and efficiency.
Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, or a related field required; equivalent technical or managerial experience considered. An MBA is desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including senior-level decision-making and policy or procedural development.
  • 5+ years of experience in multi-stop Distribution, where one truck is loaded and scheduled for 10-30 stops at specific locations with specific downloads.
  • Proven experience leading professional teams and managing technical staff within supply chain functions.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing improvements in multi-stop Distribution and warehouse management strategies.
  • 6+ years of experience overseeing direct-to-customer distribution operations.
  • 5+ years of experience managing warehouse and storage facilities.
  • At least 3 years of experience within an organization recognized for best-in-class distribution and warehouse practices.
  • Proficient in managing Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Experience with Lean management principles is desirable.
Travel

Regular travel is required, generally no more than one trip per month.
