Job description

Petzl America's Distribution Center is seeking a Manager to oversee the daily operations of the outbound portion of the DC. The successful candidate will lead the DC team in a manner that contributes to the company mission and vision of getting the right product to the right place in the right quantity at the right time and in the best condition. This role ensures completion of daily operations and expectations safely and efficiently by providing daily management of leads and the supporting technicians. You will be the point person for troubleshooting, concerns, operations and any issue needing escalation in the outbound operations. You will provide back-up for the DC Director and outbound leads as needed.

The tasks & responsibilities for this position are as follows:

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

The Outbound Manager supports and helps the DC Director and Inbound Manager create a positive work environment for all staff and contributes to a positive work environment. Staff must be given direction, must be motivated, and should be expected to perform at above average levels in all areas.

  • Directs and supports the work of assigned DC staff on a daily basis
  • Conduct performance reviews and 1/1's with direct reports
  • Address any needs for corrective/disciplinary action quickly and effectively. Ensure proper documentation in all employee concerns
  • Oversee operational tasks and projects
  • Partner with the DC Director in the hiring process, including interviews and selection.
  • Conduct daily team meetings (SIM) and lead all other meetings as assigned
  • Report employee input to the DC Director and help develop an action plan to follow-up on this input.
  • Assess and address employee needs relative to tools, training, and other resources
  • Be trained as a trainer for fork lift operations, hold training courses to ensure all new hires are properly trained and certified. Bring immediately to the attention of the DC Director any safety concerns or restrictions that need action.

OPERATIONAL DUTIES

  • Spend a minimum of 75% of your time actively involved in DC operations
  • Workflow must be proactively planned, mapped, and communicated with staff for optimum efficiency in every area.
  • Focus DC Team on the common goal of same day shipping at 99.75% accuracy.
  • Promote and teach an understanding of product quality and quality of packaging.
  • Ensure that all orders are prepared and shipped in a timely manner (same day small parcel and 2 day LTL) and report outbound work status (i.e. shipping turnaround status, difficulties, etc.) to the DC Director on a daily basis.
  • Work directly with the Supply Chain team on order/delivery creation and requests. Coordinate any workload issues and requests as needed. Keep the DC Director and Inbound Manager informed on anything of importance or impact.
  • Work directly with the Account Services teams on order issues and customer requests. Communicate directly as needed for all outbound operation needs.
  • Ensure that any down time is effectively used to complete projects, conduct training, or clean and organize.
  • Track and report daily on customer claims KPIs and any requested cycle counts or investigation. Follow up with corrective action on the DC part to ensure we improve.
  • Track all outbound KPIs: Turnaround, orders, parcels, accuracy and ensure minimum expectations are met by the team and individually,
  • Shipping supplies: Work with our suppliers on pricing and order demands. Manage supply levels and place orders proactively so that we are never without. Work with the DC Director to ensure supply budgets are held to.
  • Oversee operational tasks and projects
  • Create and maintain a working set of procedures for all outbound operations. Ensure these are revisited annually to ensure we are being the most efficient as well as training everyone with the latest updates.
  • Complete familiarization with all aspects of special accounts to include routing, pre-ticketing, special carton requirements, etc. Be able to process or reference LTL preparation when needed.
  • Organize workflow and physical space to ensure that customer requirements can be met.
  • All other duties as assigned by the DC Director

SAFETY AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Help create a safe and efficient environment, meeting standards as set by OSHA and local fire codes.

  • Cleanliness and order must be maintained in the physical distribution center.
  • The distribution center environment and all staff must meet safety standards as established by OSHA and county fire codes. This includes proper markings in the distribution center, proper usage of equipment, appropriate work attire, and safe work practices.

TECHNICAL

  • Document and prioritize system issues. Develop working knowledge of SAP and Exacta until an advanced level is attained.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all mobile devices, workstations (hardware/software) in the DC.
  • Work with key people on system bugs and improvements.
