Job description

Job Title: Distribution Center Associate
Department: Distribution Center
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of DC Operations
Position Summary: Responsible for projecting and preserving the Family Express "Living Brand" by providing support to employees including drivers and distribution center team members in a clean, safe and friendly environment. To provide our customers with total satisfaction. To serve our community through volunteerism and produce a return on assets which will assure the future prosperity of our employees and our company. To be an ambassador of our "Living Brand" by building relationships with our customers.
Essential Functions:
  • Load and unload freight, empty containers, and various products including milk, sandwiches, bread, general merchandise, etc. from and to the Perishable and Dry Goods trucks
  • Prepare the perishable trucks for their route. This includes removing and loading empty containers
  • Receive in product, count it and compare to the appropriate invoice. Inform accounting of the results
  • Move product to the appropriate storage area
  • Pick product to fulfill specific store orders and do it in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Stage the product accordingly and load it onto a truck.
  • Be able to be certified with a valid fork lift operating license
  • Clean the dock and floor area on a daily basis
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and Director of Human Resources
  • Immediately report all mechanical problems with any equipment
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

  • Obtain the necessary training to be licensed to operate a forklift and electronic pallet jack
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Ability to read and decipher pick invoices
  • Ability to add and subtract numbers
  • Be able to comply with all Family Express policies and procedures

Physical demands and work environment:
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for prolonged periods; work longer than eight (8) hour shifts, reach, climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk and hear; taste and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Work Environment: Must have flexibility to work all shifts, all days of the week, when necessary. Ability to work in face paced, organized, positive environment. Ability to tolerate extreme temperatures. Exposure to cleaning solvents.
