McDonald Automotive is seeking an IT Automation Engineer to develop, support, and expand business automation, reporting, and data integration solutions across Accounting, Payroll, Sales, Service, Parts, and Corporate Operations.

This role combines automation engineering, reporting, data management, and business process improvement. The ideal candidate will design and maintain automation, integrations, and reporting solutions while helping transition ownership of critical reporting and analytics platforms from external support partners to internal IT resources. This is a high-impact position focused on eliminating manual work, improving data accuracy, increasing efficiency, and creating scalable solutions that support long-term business growth.

Compensation Overview:

$80,000 - $135,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

About You:
  • Experience with Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Storage, Dataverse, or similar cloud data technologies.
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Apps, and enterprise reporting platforms.
  • Experience supporting data warehouse or business intelligence environments.
  • Experience in automotive retail or with dealership systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Copilot, and AI-assisted workflow design.
  • Experience with RPA platforms such as Power Automate.
  • Familiarity with source control, change management, and automation governance practices.
Experience & Qualifications Needed:
  • Strong SQL skills, including querying, writing, and maintaining relational databases.
  • Experience building or supporting internal business applications, reporting platforms, or database frontends.
  • Experience with APIs, JSON, and system integrations.
  • Scripting and processing automation experience using technologies such as Power Automate, Power Platform, Python, VBA, or similar automation tools.
  • Experience building or supporting ETL or data pipeline processes.
  • Proven track record of automating manual business processes and integrating systems.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work directly with non-technical business users to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities:
  • Own and support the organization's reporting platform, including internal SQL databases, ETL processes, reporting datasets, frontend applications, and technologies transitioned from external support partners.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain business automations and system integrations using Power Platform, APIs, SQL, Python, Microsoft Copilot, and other automation technologies.
  • Develop and optimize SQL solutions, including queries, stored procedures, views, and data models, while ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and system performance.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance Power BI reporting solutions, including semantic models, dashboards, report distribution, and role-based security.
  • Partner with business leaders to analyze workflows, identify inefficiencies, and deliver technology solutions that streamline operations, reduce manual effort, and improve business processes.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improve reporting systems, integrations, data pipelines, and automation workflows to ensure reliability and operational continuity.
  • Establish and maintain documentation, governance standards, security controls, and best practices for reporting, automation, and data management solutions.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies, AI capabilities, and Microsoft ecosystem tools to drive innovation and improve organizational efficiency.
