Position Overview

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President ("AVP") of Fund Operation and Tax Distribution. The director will assist the AVP in guiding and directing all facts pertaining to the operation of the tax distribution operating process. In addition, the director will assist the AVP in establishing departmental policies, procedures and requirements for distribution and will deliver technical, functional leadership of the department through supporting and guiding distribution activities, establishing and maintaining strategic initiatives and collaborating with external and internal tax resources.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the lead, define and oversee the operational requirements of the tax distribution module to ensure processing and compliance of fund tax and operational requirements are met within the Fund Accounting team.
  • Assist in managing the operational requirements of the tax distribution module to ensure fund tax operational compliance requirements are met within the Fund Accounting team.
  • Assist in providing strategic recommendations on the tax distribution module while collaborating closely with the tax team to incorporate tax developments, address client requests and enhance operational efficiency within the fund tax distribution model.
  • Assist in collaborating with external tax consultants to test various functionalities of the tax distribution module and assist in the development of comprehensive test cases.
  • Assist in collaborating and negotiating with external tax consultants on change management for any tax related updates to the distribution module. Work closely with both the fund accounting and tax teams to ensure the successful implementation of all changes to the tax distribution module.
  • Assist in engaging with Fund Accounting Leaders to streamline the accounting data requirement for the distribution module.
  • Assist in coordinating and overseeing training sessions for the Fund Accounting team on the tax distribution module.
  • Monitor changes in relevant tax regulations and supply relevant information on industry trends, maintaining tax regulatory and procedural changes to anticipating future tax distribution requirements.
  • Collaborate regularly with other CIBC internal departments to support the resolution of client enquires, issues and concerns.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining strong working relationships with various audit firms and tax consultants.
  • Assist in collaborating with clients to maintain relationships and ensure expectations are being met, issues resolved and opportunities are recognized.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of current legislation, changes in the mutual fund industry and maintains an in-depth knowledge of current tax issues and changes in order to keep the team up to date.
  • Assist in leading, coaching and developing a team of tax specialists, including setting performance objectives, conducting performance reviews and coordinating training requirements and development opportunities
Qualifications
  • University Degree in finance, accounting or a related discipline
  • CPA financial designation
  • 5-8 years progressive experience
  • Tax and accounting experience in the investment fund industry is required;
  • High degree of commitment to quality work and accuracy.
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining effective partnerships with external/internal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex operational scenarios.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with a record of engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
