Group: Architecture + Interiors

Position: Architectural Project Manager, Federal

Location: Indianapolis, IN (on site)

Our architects pursue design excellence with a desire to improve the interactions we have with each other and our built environment. We are ranked as the fifth-largest architectural firm in the greater Indianapolis area. Our Architecture Group includes almost 30 distinguished architects, interior designers, planners, graphic designers, and LEED-accredited professionals with direct access to our more than 500 professionals across 11 disciplines.

Our collaborative design approach brings to light creative solutions to complex challenges, while balancing social, environmental, and economic realities. We orchestrate the design process with a full range of services, from programming and concept design, through architecture, interior and graphic design, and construction administration services.

Responsibilities

As a Federal Project Manager, your responsibilities will mirror those of a traditional Project Manager, with a distinct emphasis on overseeing a portfolio concentrated on federal and government initiatives. You will be responsible for overseeing a project team's communications, financial performance, and ensuring that the work is completed as planned, budgeted, and scheduled for federally regulated projects.

The Federal Project Manager works collaboratively with the Project Architect and Project Designer. Together you are responsible for ensuring that the client's needs and expectations are properly identified and met. You may manage one or more projects during all phases and direct select staff and consultants to ensure that proper steps and procedures are taken in an effort to ensure project success. This role is collaborative, and client focused with a commitment to nurturing the client and project team relationships as well as design excellence.

Leadership

  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with clients and internal teams.
  • Assist group leadership in developing project scope, fee, and budget.
  • Prepare and deliver client presentations; maintain timely communication of project information.
  • Manage project proposals, contracts, and change notices.
  • Ensure profitability by monitoring work plans, schedules, and budgets.

Workflow & Staff Management

  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects; coordinate staff assignments with Production Director.
  • Lead project planning and milestone tracking; maintain resource projections.
  • Communicate with consultants and contractors to ensure coordination.
  • Oversee construction administration and maintain client relationships during CA phase.
  • Participate in interviewing and onboarding professional staff as needed.

Marketing & Sales

  • Identify new business opportunities and assist in proposal development.
  • Support marketing efforts with project insights and client engagement.

Staff Development

  • Mentor and coach team members; provide feedback and facilitate open dialogue.
  • Support staff development plans and performance assessments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related field required
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in architectural design and project management
  • Former experience working on federally regulated projects is highly preferred
  • Experience with government regulations, such as: UFC, AT/FP
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects of varying complexity
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and consultant coordination
  • Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office; familiarity with scheduling tools
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • LEED accreditation strongly encouraged
  • Professional Architectural License with current registration in region(s) preferred
  • Available for occasional travel, approximately a few days per month, to fulfill project requirements and attend conferences.
