Job description

Job Title: Distillation Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on operating and monitoring distillation equipment to produce target compounds from specified raw materials in a manufacturing environment. The Distillation Technician maintains accurate batch records in accordance with GMP and SOPs, performs calculations and inspections, and supports continuous process improvement. This is an overnight position with a regular schedule from 1:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and oversee distillation equipment to process target compounds and batches from specified raw materials.
  • Monitor and verify temperatures and other critical parameters throughout the distillation process.
  • Complete batch records accurately and in compliance with GMP and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform calculations related to product specifications, batch yields, and process parameters as required.
  • Conduct product inspections and prepare samples for quality control testing.
  • Record process data and other required information with a high level of accuracy and completeness.
  • Use computer systems to input and maintain data in internal tracking systems.
  • Handle chemicals, compounds, and batches safely during mixing, blending, and batch-making activities.
  • Follow best practices and standard operating procedures to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Continuously identify and support improvements to processes and documentation.
  • Work independently to manage assigned tasks, equipment, and documentation without constant supervision.
  • Ensure proper handling and use of expensive ingredients and materials.
  • Collaborate and communicate clearly with colleagues at various levels in a straightforward and professional manner.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in a manufacturing-type setting.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to operate and monitor distillation equipment, including fractional and steam distillation processes.
  • Experience or familiarity with purification, compounding, batch making, and blending in a chemical or manufacturing environment.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry, chemical handling, and chemical mixing processes.
  • Strong attention to detail when recording data, completing batch records, and following SOPs.
  • Ability to perform and verify calculations related to product specifications and process parameters.
  • Comfort using computer systems to enter and track data in internal systems.
  • Capability to work independently and manage tasks in an environment that requires minimal direct supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to work the 1:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. shift, Monday through Friday, and adjust to different shifts as required.
  • Minimum of a high school degree with solid attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in distillation is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a GMP environment is preferred.

Work Environment

The Distillation Technician works in an independent, manufacturing-type setting that requires strong attention to detail and accurate documentation. The role involves operating distillation and related equipment, handling chemicals, and working with expensive ingredients in a production environment. The position follows an overnight schedule from 1:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with the possibility of working different shifts as needed. The culture is that of a family-owned company with a work-hard, play-hard mindset and very straightforward communication, where team members interact across various levels. The environment requires consistent use of computer systems to enter and manage data in internal tracking tools. Typical attire is casual, such as jeans and a T-shirt, suitable for a manufacturing setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
