Job Title: Maintenance Operator – Distillation Unit

Job Description

The Maintenance Operator supports day-to-day operations in an industrial distillation unit by performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment, and assisting with process operations. This role is ideal for a mechanically inclined professional who enjoys hands-on work, working with pumps and piping systems, and contributing directly to safe and reliable plant performance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily equipment walkthroughs, checking gauges, fluid levels, and overall system conditions to identify potential issues early.
  • Execute preventative maintenance activities using internal preventive maintenance (PM) systems and procedures.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical equipment, including centrifugal pumps, valves, and piping systems, to ensure reliable operation.
  • Perform basic instrumentation checks and minor adjustments as needed to support stable process performance.
  • Assist with the installation, removal, and replacement of mechanical components and equipment within the distillation unit.
  • Support distillation operations by assisting with pumping activities and other process-related tasks as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with operators and maintenance team members to address daily priorities and resolve equipment issues.
  • Follow strict safety protocols, work permits, and standard operating procedures at all times.
  • Use appropriate tools and equipment safely and effectively to complete maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Document maintenance work and communicate equipment status and concerns to the operations and maintenance teams.

Essential Skills

  • 2–3+ years of experience in a mechanical or trade-related field preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including experience working with tools, equipment, and mechanical repairs.
  • Hands-on experience with pumps (especially centrifugal pumps), valves, piping systems, or similar industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges and recognize abnormal equipment or system conditions.
  • Experience in maintenance, construction trades, automotive, or similar hands-on roles.
  • Ability to learn plant operations and distillation processes, with training provided.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures, permits, and protocols in a safety-sensitive environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial maintenance, construction trades, automotive repair, or related mechanical fields is preferred.
  • Familiarity with industrial distillation or process operations is a plus.
  • Comfort working with basic instrumentation in an industrial setting.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training to expand knowledge of plant operations and distillation processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with operators and maintenance personnel to coordinate work and priorities.

Why Work Here?

You work in a hands-on environment where no two days are the same, providing variety, continuous learning, and a sense of accomplishment as you help keep critical industrial systems running safely and efficiently.

Work Environment

This role is based in a safety-sensitive industrial environment within a distillation facility. You work closely with a small team of approximately nine employees, including operators and support staff, fostering strong collaboration and communication. Daily use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, is required, and adherence to a clean-shaven policy is necessary to ensure proper respirator fit.
