Job description

Summary

Receives and efficiently processes incoming and outgoing emergency and non-emergency pre-hospital service requests in a timely manner. Utilizes system status management for appropriate dispatch and coordination of emergency medical resources for all Parkview Health pre-hospital air and ground units. Provides medical information using protocol driven instructions. Possesses understanding of emergency dispatching programs, policies and procedures that prescribe how emergency and non-emergency patient care needs for ground and air transportation is assessed, evaluated and met. Coordinates information and resources with other public safety agencies.

Education

Must have high school diploma or GED.

Licensure/Certification

Must have a valid Advanced EMD or EMD-Q certification or obtain within six (6) months of employment. IAMTCS certification within eighteen (18) months of employment. Must have a current CPR certification.

Experience

Recommend 3 years of experience as a paramedic or dispatcher; or 1 year of experience in a high call volume EMD dispatch center. Additional experience with critical care transport or air medical call taking dispatch and flight following are highly desired.

Other Qualifications

Must have good verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak clearly and distinctly on the telephone and radio. Must have good written communication skills. Must have basic computer skills. Must have ability to function effectively in stressful situations. Must demonstrate proficiency in medical terms, conditions and procedures.
