Job Summary

The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing fleet routing, scheduling, dispatch, and maintenance operations to ensure efficient logistics, regulatory compliance, cost control, and high customer service standards. This role leads drivers and supports staff while maintaining operational efficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
   Manage daily transportation operations including routing, scheduling, dispatching, staffing, and fleet maintenance.
   Optimize route planning and fleet utilization to reduce costs and improve service levels.
   Supervise, train, and evaluate drivers and transportation staff; manage schedules and performance.
   Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, HOS, and all local/state/federal regulations.
   Enforce safety protocols and conduct inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
   Oversee preventive maintenance programs, repairs, and parts inventory to ensure fleet reliability.
   Manage transportation budget, monitor expenses, and implement cost-saving initiatives.
   Track KPIs (on-time delivery, fuel usage, uptime) and drive continuous improvement.
   Utilize TMS/GPS systems and maintain accurate records (driver logs, maintenance, costs).
   Manage vendor relationships and negotiate service contracts.
   Resolve transportation and customer service issues promptly.

Qualifications:
   Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
   5+ years of experience in fleet operations, routing, dispatch, and maintenance management.
   Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, compliance, and safety standards.
   Experience with budgeting, cost control, and operational efficiency improvements.
   Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), GPS tracking, and Microsoft Office.
   Proven leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
   Valid driver's license; CDL preferred.

Additional Requirements:
   Ability to work in fast-paced, warehouse/outdoor environments.
   Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and perform vehicle inspections.
   May be required to perform delivery duties in the absence of a route driver.
