AboutKnightscope
Knightscope is a security technology company building the Nation's First Autonomous Security Force. The Company combines autonomous machines, advanced software, and human expertise to help protect people, property, and critical infrastructure. Knightscope's long-term mission is to make the United States of America the safest country in the world.
Job Summary
Knightscope is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our product development team and own mechanical engineering across multiple hardware programs, including H1, K1, and K7. In this role, you will own mechanical design, component integration, and enclosure development from early prototype through production readiness. You will work cross-functionally with electrical, software, and systems engineers in a fast-paced, gate-driven product development environment, set technical direction, and play a critical role in shaping a portfolio of products.
Location Requirement:Full-time, on-site at Sunnyvale HQ
About the Role
The role is an ownership-driven position within a multidisciplinary program team, requiring a senior, hands-on engineer who is comfortable operating in ambiguity, working independently with minimal direction, and driving decisions across mechanical, electrical, and software boundaries. You will be expected to make thoughtful tradeoffs and carry designs from early concept and prototyping through to production.
This individual will own the mechanical scope of our hardware products -including component evaluation, enclosure design, system integration, thermal management, and test support. The ideal candidate has experience developing real-world products that integrate electronics into physical systems, with familiarity across most manufacturing processes. You move quickly from CAD to prototype, adapt easily as the design space evolves, and thrive in environments where things pivot quickly and nothing is fully defined.
Please include the Disney character that best describes you in your resume-and make sure to ask your interviewers the same. They are expecting it!
Key Responsibilities
- Drive mechanical design and integration across the H1, K1, and K7 programs through all phases of product development
- Evaluate and integrate electrical components across a range of product form factors.
- Develop enclosure, mounting, and packaging solutions for electronic components, including compute, sensors, and power systems
- Identify and manage thermal, structural, and ergonomic constraints in electromechanical systems
- Collaborate closely with electrical, software, and system engineering teams to resolve cross-functional tradeoffs
- Support development of test plans, fixtures, and validation activities to ensure product performance and reliability
- Work with external partners and vendors as needed to support design and manufacturing
- Contribute to establishing scalable product development processes and best practices
- Set mechanical engineering direction across programs and mentor junior engineers.
Required Qualifications
- B.S or M.S degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in product development, with demonstrated independent ownership of electromechanical hardware programs from concept through production.
- Experience taking multiple hardware products from concept through production.
- Experience with soft goods, wearables, or body-worn products preferred
- Experience designing mechanical systems that integrate electronics
- Proficiency in CAD tools (Solidworks, Fusion360)
- Familiarity with thermal design and management in compact, sealed enclosures
- Hands-on prototyping experience; comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage program environment with ambiguous and incomplete requirements and aggressive milestones,
- Experience with different manufacturing techniques and materials.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills; ability to work effectively with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams
- Have a roll-up-the-sleeves, can-do attitude, where no task is too menial for you.
- Proven ability to work independently and set technical direction; experience mentoring engineers a plus.
