Job description

CMTA, formerly known as AMA Group, is seeking an experienced MEP Construction Superintendent for our offices in New York City and New Jersey. We are looking for a mid-level MEP Construction Superintendent who will be responsible for coordinating all site construction activities and support/report to management. You will work for with clients like NBC Universal, Disney, NBC Sports, and A+E Networks. The role requires travel to jobsites throughout New York City, Brooklyn, Northern New Jersey and Southern Connecticut; there is limited time spent in the office.

Role Responsibilities: As a MEP Construction Superintendent for you will be responsible for supervising all trade and field personnel, implementing and/or improving our companywide project management processes; with the highest level of focus on administering good safety practices. Your responsibilities include: 

  • Establish site safety/site-office setup to ensure you have everything that is necessary at the time construction begins, to include but not limited to: a logistics plan, how materials will arrive and exit a project site, project safety requirements, and an emergency/evacuation plan 
  • Review and understand project schedule, assist Project Manager in maintaining schedule (in MS project format) 
  • Create Project Team & Home Page on Procore. Generate a project directory with all field personnel including the building engineers/staff, design teams, expeditor, special inspector, contractor’s PM’s/foremen, etc. in Procore 
  • Issue subcontractor welcome letters, collect subcontractor insurance, and communicate project safety requirements 
  • Review trade scope sheets/proposals to ensure an understand of each subcontractor’s scope of work. 
  • Generate a list of RFI’s based upon your drawing, scope, and job site review; gather a full understanding of what is owed. Review and highlight drawings to ensure all scope shown is captured. Coordinate the design team addressing any open RFI issues. 
  • Prepare a submittal log based upon review of the design drawings, issue log to subcontractors and coordinate reviews of all submittals/shop drawings with the design team via Procore 
  • Print and post all required/helpful OSHA/Safety signage; and permits on a permit board near the freight entrance and field office 
  • Perform site specific safety orientations, enforce subcontractor weekly toolbox talks and daily huddles: generate meeting agenda and take minutes 
  • Mark up MEPS plans daily to track progress of work, take daily progress photos, issue weekly progress report to client and two-week lookaheads 
  • Managing laboring staff and record timesheets 
  • Create change events (CE’s) and obtain sub-contractor pricing when required 
  • Coordinate Subcontractor meetings and record meeting minutes 
  • Prepare client meeting minutes for Project Manager review and editing in Procore   
  • Generate close out and permit matrix 
  • Organize site clean off and removal of all material 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; OR equivalent years of related experience required. 

Experience: 

  • 4 - 7 years of experience in construction management; MEP and Interiors. 
  • Requires working knowledge of various construction disciplines, union agreements/jurisdiction, cost control, scheduling, safety regulations, engineering drawings and other documents. 
  • Working knowledge of MS Project, MS Project Suite, PlanGrid/Procore. 
  • Experience working on cross functional teams within different offices.

  • Proven ability to work in a deadline driven environment. 
  • Ability to adapt communications; have strong verbal, and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently while managing multiple projects.
