Position Overview

The Walt Disney Company is seeking a strategic and experienced communications leader to serve as Director, Communications for Games & Digital Entertainment. This role will lead communications strategy across Disney's growing games business, supporting major franchise initiatives, partnerships, and digital entertainment efforts globally.

Games are an increasingly important part of Disney's storytelling, extending narratives and fandom across platforms. As the business evolves, Disney is focused on creating original interactive experiences and embracing the shift toward social and creator-driven gaming environments.

This role will shape that narrative externally, positioning Disney as a leader in interactive entertainment while supporting executive visibility, high-profile announcements, and cross-functional initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience across gaming, entertainment, technology, and consumer communications, with strong media relationships, executive communications expertise, and a strong understanding of gaming culture and fandom.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications

  • Develop and execute integrated communications strategies for Disney Games & Digital Entertainment initiatives across franchises, platforms and partnerships.
  • Help articulate the role of games within Disney's connected storytelling approach, including original interactive content and cross-platform experiences.
  • Support executive visibility, thought leadership, and corporate positioning within the gaming industry.
  • Partner closely with internal teams across communications, marketing, legal, franchise, and product organizations.
  • Lead communications strategy for major games launches in close coordination with external licensees, developers, and platform partners to support major beats and ongoing live experiences, ensuring aligned messaging, timing, and brand stewardship across thirdparty ecosystems.

Media Relations & Industry Engagement

  • Build and manage relationships with gaming, entertainment, business, and technology media, with an emphasis on the evolving games and creator ecosystem landscape.
  • Lead communications for major announcements, launches, partnerships, showcases, and events.
  • Manage media briefings, interviews, press materials, and executive messaging.

Franchise & Product Communications

  • Support communications efforts tied to Disney's portfolio of franchises across games and interactive experiences.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to ensure aligned messaging across titles and initiatives.
  • Help shape narratives around social and creator-driven experiences.

Executive & Crisis Communications

  • Draft talking points, speeches, briefing documents, and internal communications for senior leadership.
  • Support crisis communications planning and reputation management efforts.
  • Monitor gaming industry trends, fan communities, and emerging issues.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of communications or PR experience.
  • Experience within gaming, entertainment, media, or technology industries.
  • Proven experience leading high-profile campaigns and media strategies.
  • Strong executive communications and stakeholder management skills.
  • Deep understanding of gaming culture and fan communities.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Experience managing sensitive or high-profile issues.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative and matrixed environment.
  • People leadership experience, with a track record of building, leading and developing high-performing team members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting AAA game launches or entertainment franchises.
  • Existing relationships with gaming and entertainment press.
  • Experience working with licensing, publishing, or external development partners.
  • Familiarity with creator ecosystems, digital platforms, and emerging gaming trends.
  • Experience managing relationships with Communications/PR agencies.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.

The hiring range for this position in California is $185,500.00 to $248,800.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
