Position Summary
The Distribution Center Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, safety, efficiency, and
performance of the distribution center, including warehouse operations, inventory control, facility
maintenance, fleet compliance, transportation support, and personnel management.

This position ensures that products, materials, equipment, and company assets are received, stored,
maintained, and distributed accurately and efficiently while maintaining a safe, organized, and compliant
workplace. The Distribution Center Manager will also oversee facility maintenance activities and ensure
company vehicles assigned to the location meet operational, safety, DOT, and company fleet
requirements.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can balance daily operational demands with long-term
improvements in safety, productivity, inventory accuracy, fleet readiness, facility condition, and cost
control.

Key Responsibilities

Distribution & Warehouse Operations

• Direct daily receiving, warehousing, inventory, picking, staging, shipping, and distribution activities.
• Ensure materials and equipment are received, processed, stored, and distributed accurately and efficiently.
• Establish and maintain organized warehouse layouts and designated storage locations.
• Monitor workflow, staffing, productivity, and workload to meet operational requirements.
• Maintain high standards for inventory accuracy and material accountability.
• Conduct or coordinate cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliations.
• Investigate inventory discrepancies, shortages, damaged materials, and process failures.
• Ensure timely processing of returns, transfers, obsolete inventory, and other material movements.
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for distribution center activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, improve material flow, and lower operating costs.

Facility Maintenance & Management

• Maintain overall responsibility for the condition, safety, security, and appearance of the distribution center and surrounding property.
• Conduct routine facility inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
• Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance for:
  • HVAC systems
  • Electrical and lighting
  • Plumbing
  • Dock doors and loading areas
  • Racking and shelving
  • Material handling equipment
  • Fire and life-safety equipment
  • Security and access-control systems
  • Building and grounds
• Coordinate repairs and maintenance with approved outside vendors and contractors.
• Maintain facility maintenance records and preventive maintenance schedules.
• Obtain quotes, issue service requests, and monitor vendor performance and repair costs.
• Ensure emergency exits, fire extinguishers, walkways, loading areas, and other safety-related areas remain accessible and compliant.
• Support facility projects, improvements, expansions, and equipment installations as required.

Fleet Operations & Compliance

• Oversee the operational readiness and compliance of company vehicles assigned to the distribution center.
• Ensure vehicles receive required preventive maintenance and repairs according to company standards and manufacturer recommendations.
• Conduct or coordinate routine vehicle inspections and fleet audits.
• Monitor vehicle condition, mileage, utilization, maintenance status, registrations, insurance documentation, and required inspections.
• Coordinate vehicle repairs and maintenance with internal resources, fleet management companies, dealerships, and outside vendors.
• Ensure drivers complete required pre-trip/post-trip inspections and promptly report vehicle defects.
• Monitor and resolve vehicle safety deficiencies before vehicles are returned to service.
• Maintain required fleet documentation and compliance records.
• Support compliance with applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, state, local, and company requirements.
• Ensure applicable drivers maintain required licenses, medical cards, training, and other qualifications.
• Monitor fleet safety equipment and ensure vehicles contain required company and regulatory equipment.
• Assist with accident reporting, vehicle damage documentation, claims coordination, and corrective actions.
• Monitor fleet utilization and recommend reassignment, replacement, or disposal of underutilized or high-cost assets.
• Promote safe driving practices and overall fleet accountability.

Safety & Compliance

• Maintain a strong safety culture throughout warehouse, facility, and fleet operations.
• Conduct routine safety inspections and immediately address unsafe conditions.
• Ensure employees receive appropriate safety and equipment training.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA requirements and company safety policies.
• Ensure proper operation and inspection of forklifts, pallet jacks, dock equipment, and other material-handling equipment.
• Maintain required safety documentation and inspection records.
• Investigate accidents, injuries, property damage, vehicle incidents, and near misses.
• Develop and implement corrective actions when safety or compliance issues are identified.
• Conduct regular safety meetings and reinforce employee accountability for safe work practices.

Leadership & Personnel Management

• Lead, coach, develop, and hold distribution center employees accountable for performance.
• Establish clear expectations for safety, productivity, attendance, quality, customer service, and workplace organization.
• Manage employee scheduling and staffing requirements.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions.
• Cross-train employees to improve operational flexibility and business continuity.
• Promote teamwork and effective communication between distribution, fleet, operations, purchasing, finance, and field personnel.
• Develop employees for increased responsibility and future leadership opportunities.

Qualifications

Required

• 5+ years of experience in distribution, warehouse, logistics, fleet, transportation, or operations management.
• 3+ years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of warehouse and inventory management practices.
• General mechanical knowledge of automobiles, commercial vehicles, and material-handling equipment.
• Experience coordinating facility and equipment maintenance.
• Understanding of fleet preventive maintenance and vehicle inspection processes.
• General knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and workplace safety requirements.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, including spreadsheets, documents, and reporting tools.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Be able to obtain a DOT medical card to operate a non-CDL box truck.

Preferred

• Experience managing a multi-site or high-volume distribution operation.
• Experience with fleet management systems, telematics, or platforms such as Samsara.
• Experience working with third-party fleet management providers.
• Knowledge of commercial vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Experience with Pixsys and/or inventory-management software.
• OSHA, DOT, forklift, safety, or related professional training/certifications.
• Experience developing KPIs, dashboards, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to work in warehouse, office, loading dock, vehicle, and outdoor environments.
• Ability to walk the facility and yard regularly and conduct physical inspections of vehicles, equipment, inventory, and facilities.
• Ability to lift and move materials consistent with company safety requirements.
• Ability to respond to urgent facility, fleet, inventory, or operational issues when required.
• Occasional travel may be required to vendors, other company facilities, or fleet service locations.

Overall Accountability

The Distribution Center Manager owns the safe, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective operation of
the distribution center and its assigned assets. Success in this role requires maintaining a facility that is
operationally ready, inventory that is accurate and accountable, vehicles that are safe and compliant, and
a team that consistently meets the needs of the organization and its customers.

Schedule: Working start times range each day from 4:45 am to 6:00 am. Work schedule is flexible
for either 4-10 hour shifts Monday through Thursday or 5-8 hour shifts Monday - Friday. The
schedule is subject to change to meet the needs of the business.
