Job Duties and Responsibilities

Principal DevOps/Platform Engineer (DISH Network LLC, Christiansburg, Virginia)

Drive AI-enabled DevOps by integrating Generative AI tools into the SDLC for code generation, testing, incident analysis, and productivity improvements, and support scalable AI-enabled platform capabilities, including prompt management, usage monitoring, and observability (10% of the time). Design and implement cloud-based application environments across AWS and GCP to support scalable, high-availability software applications; contribute to Kubernetes-based deployments and environment configuration to support development and testing workflows (10% of the time). Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks to improve software quality, deployment efficiency, and system reliability 10% of the time). Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to integrate automated testing, performance testing, and security validation into continuous integration and delivery processes (10% of the time). Design and execute load, performance, reliability, and regression testing strategies for distributed and cloud-native applications (10% of the time). Participate in defining service reliability metrics, including service-level objectives (SLOs), service-level indicators (SLIs), and incident response procedures to improve application stability (10% of the time). Conduct root-cause analysis of production defects and performance issues and implement improvements to testing frameworks, automation coverage, and deployment processes (10% of the time). Implement security and compliance validation mechanisms within DevOps pipelines, including vulnerability scanning and automated quality gates (10% of the time). Evaluate system performance and resource utilization and recommend optimizations to improve application efficiency and reduce operational risks (5% of the time). Contribute to architectural design discussions for core platforms and services, providing input from a software quality, performance, and reliability perspective (5% of the time). Mentor junior engineers on test automation, CI/CD practices, performance engineering, and cloud based testing methodologies (5% of the time). Partner with engineering leadership to improve testing standards, automation maturity, and overall software development lifecycle processes (5% of the time). Travel required to HQ in Denver, CO twice a year. Salary: $145,600 - 181,500 per year

Skills, Experience and Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems Security, or a related field, plus 6 years of professional experience as a Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer or any occupation, job title, position involving cloud infrastructure engineering, DevOps engineering, and platform engineering.

Must also have experience in the following: 6 years of professional experience designing, deploying, and managing large-scale Kubernetes environments, including multi-cluster and multi-tenant architectures using Amazon EKS and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). 6 years of professional experience designing high availability and multiregion cloud architectures to support resilient enterprise workloads, including failover strategies and disaster recovery planning. 5 years of professional experience developing and maintaining observability and monitoring systems, including distributed tracing, metrics collection, centralized logging, and monitoring frameworks using tools (including Dynatrace, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry). 5 years of professional experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) including Terraform. 3 years of professional experience implementing CI/CD and GitOps frameworks, including pipeline design, deployment automation, configuration management, and release engineering practices. 3 years of professional experience implementing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including defining service-level objectives (SLOs), service-level indicators (SLIs), error budgets, incident response processes, and operational runbooks.
