Discrete Event Simulation Remote information

How does working remotely impact collaboration on discrete event simulation projects, and what tools are commonly used to facilitate teamwork?

Remote work in discrete event simulation often involves collaborating with cross-functional teams such as engineers, analysts, and project managers. Effective communication is key, and teams typically use specialized simulation software alongside project management and communication tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and version control systems (e.g., Git) to share models and results. Regular video meetings and screen-sharing sessions help synchronize work and troubleshoot simulation issues together. Adapting to a remote environment may require proactive communication and strong documentation skills to ensure seamless collaboration and project success.

What is a Discrete Event Simulation Remote job?

A Discrete Event Simulation Remote job involves creating and analyzing computer models that simulate the operation of complex systems, where changes (events) happen at distinct points in time. These professionals use specialized software to model processes in areas such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, or communications. Working remotely, they collaborate with teams, collect data, build simulation models, run experiments, and interpret results to help organizations optimize their operations or solve problems. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and programming skills are often required for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Discrete Event Simulation Remote professional, and why are they important?

To excel as a Discrete Event Simulation Remote professional, you need a solid background in systems engineering, mathematics, and computer science, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with simulation software such as Arena, Simul8, or AnyLogic, and programming languages like Python or C++, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating in a remote environment. Job description

Mission Summary:

The Associate RVA Instructor plays a critical role in enabling safe, compliant, and scalable autonomous vehicle operations by developing and delivering training programs that prepare Remote Vehicle Assistance (RVA) personnel to support autonomous driving systems. Reporting to the RVA Supervisor, this role serves as a subject matter expert responsible for onboarding, certifying, and continuously developing remote operations personnel through classroom instruction, simulation exercises, and operational coaching. The Associate RVA Instructor partners cross-functionally with Operations, Systems Engineering, Vehicle Integration Engineering, and Learning & Development teams to translate technical system changes into effective training content and operational procedures. By applying technical expertise, instructional excellence, and operational judgment, this role ensures agents are prepared to safely manage routine, non-routine, and complex remote vehicle assistance scenarios while supporting research and development activities, commercialization initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts that advance Motional's driverless future.

What You'll Be Doing

Training & Instruction

  • Facilitate instructor-led training for new and existing Remote Operations personnel on standard, non-standard, and complex remote vehicle assistance events, ensuring operational proficiency and adherence to established procedures.
  • Deliver event-based training exercises, simulations, and scenario walkthroughs that build agent competency in responding to autonomous vehicle interventions and escalations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on RVA tools, workflows, and event handling, providing hands-on instruction and knowledge transfer to support onboarding and operational readiness.
  • Assess trainee performance during hands-on instruction, simulations, and live operational observations, providing coaching and recommending additional development where needed.
  • Lead new-hire onboarding activities and support certification processes to ensure personnel achieve operational readiness standards prior to performing independent duties.
  • Provide formal instruction, coaching, and mentoring to new and less experienced agents on standard, recurring, and complex remote vehicle assistance scenarios, reinforcing procedural compliance, critical thinking, and operational best practices.
  • Partner with Training and operational leadership to continuously improve training materials, certification requirements, and instructional methodologies based on operational learnings and system changes.

Operational Support & Technical Expertise

  • Provide operational support for RVA activities in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with operational requirements.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain SOPs, training guides, and certification materials for new tools, processes, or system changes with appropriate review and approval.
  • Perform controlled updates to workstation software, server usage, and hardware in accordance with change management and access control procedures.
  • Accurately document technical findings, reproducible issues, real-time autonomous vehicle events, and escalation actions to support incident tracking, audit readiness, and root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering and other stakeholders to communicate system changes, validate operational readiness, and ensure required training is completed prior to deployment.
  • Monitor system health indicators and initiate corrective actions in accordance with established thresholds and escalation protocols.
  • Certify autonomous vehicle readiness for daily operations and triage/troubleshoot autonomous vehicle hardware and software issues as they relate to remote operations responsibilities.
  • Act as a liaison with internal stakeholders to coordinate testing schedules, communicate operational impacts, and ensure alignment with safety and compliance expectations.
  • Ensure the safe and compliant operation of autonomous vehicles on public roads by adhering to all operational, safety, and escalation protocols.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex, non-routine, or high-risk remote vehicle assistance scenarios requiring advanced assessment or coordination.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, consistent with role scope and authorization.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in the automotive, autonomous vehicle, robotics, or fleet operations environment
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues across automotive systems, robotic platforms, computer hardware, software applications, and network infrastructure
