Overview

Litigation Paralegal

Law Firm with offices in Newport News, Gloucester, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg, seeks candidates for our Newport News office with knowledge of and experience in civil litigation, including familiarity with the General District Court and Circuit Court systems. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, respect for discretion and confidentiality, the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet tight deadlines, and the ability to work in a fast paced environment. The candidate must demonstrate a positive representation of the firm's commitment to client service and must demonstrate the desire to be an essential part of a busy practice as a team player.

Pay is $22-$30 with the opportunity for bonuses. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Assist attorneys in the preparation of pleadings, motions, and discovery documents for filing in General District Court and Circuit Court;
  • Familiarity with General District Court and Circuit Court procedures, filing requirements, and case management systems;
  • Assist Attorney in the preparation and filing of civil complaints, answers, counterclaims, demurrers, pleas in bar, and related pleadings;
  • Assist attorney in the drafting and responding to discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission;
  • Calendar and track deadlines, hearing dates, and statutes of limitations;
  • Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel on scheduling and case status;
  • Conduct legal research using Westlaw, Lexis, or similar research platforms;
  • Organize and maintain case files, exhibits, and trial preparation materials;
  • Assist with preparation for hearings, depositions, and trial, including exhibit and witness organization;
  • Communicate with clients, witnesses, and third parties on a daily basis regarding case developments;
  • Prepare correspondence, demand letters, and settlement documentation;
  • Post judgment and collections experience is a plus;
  • Knowledge of e-filing systems for Virginia courts is a plus.
