Milieu Manager - Addiction Recovery | Northern Path Recovery Center | Fort Wayne, Indiana

About the Job:

PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Milieu Manager maintains the safety of and supervises the therapeutic community for clients with varying degrees of acuity and disability. Provides direct leadership in program development and implementation and direct coaching and training of the Behavioral Health Associate (BHA) staff and collaborates with the nursing staff in direct client care management. Ensures quality assurance through monitoring, role modeling, and teaching. Contributes to a safe working environment by participating in training and being prepared to take action should a health or safety emergency occur.

Roles and Responsibilities:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in behavioral health and related field required.
  • Five or more years' experience in a behavioral health environment required.
  • Understands common psychiatric disorders and/or dual diagnosis and various treatment modalities of the population served.
  • Exceptional knowledge of and skills in verbal de-escalation and crisis intervention.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • CPR certification and de-escalation training required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of one year of related supervisory experience required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages day-to-day operations of the units to ensure clinical aspect meet all regulatory requirements for the clients. Supervises, assists and ensures client safety in all client areas.
  • Provides information to the charge nurse to assist in the development and revision of the treatment plan.
  • Assists the clinical management team in the development and implementation of program strategies.
  • Monitors and facilitates daily programming including adhering to daily schedules. Ensures orientation of clients to the program schedule and client safety at all times.
  • Identifies and prioritizes issues of importance, including those priority issues as set by leadership. Collaborates with department leaders and corporate leaders, as needed.
  • Communicates instructions, expectations and timelines clearly and concisely.
  • Maintains productivity levels that are aligned with client census, curtailing unnecessary overtime and/or excessive staff work hours.
  • Manages staff scheduling and maintains an updated plan for contingency staffing.
  • Maintains accountability expectations for self and staff in all areas of job performance.
  • Engages staff in quality and safety basics to ensure sustained, measurable compliance.
  • Identifies staff educational needs and ensures they are addressed with education programs that are attended by staff.
  • Holds staff accountable for non-compliance and client safety concerns, as well as attendance, following policies, behavior, and adherence to code of conduct.
  • Ensures proper, accurate and timely documentation of client information and progress
  • Provides onboarding, orientation, supervision, training and coaching of all BHAs.
  • Assists the Charge Nurse with assignments for BHAs, group coverage, charting, breaks, environmental and safety rounds and codes.
  • Ensures adequate staff coverage and staff - ratio compliance. Plans and develops unit schedules.
  • Ensures the wellbeing of clients and provide a positive, supportive and structured environment, under direction of charge nurse or supervisor.
  • Applies de-escalation techniques to help manage client's emotions, behavior and participation in treatment and assist with seclusion and restraint when necessary.
  • Oversees or facilitates the admission discharge processes.
  • Manages the maintenance of records. Reviews content, accuracy and timeliness of paperwork required by milieu staff. Ensures 100% compliance of client records.
  • Participates in rehabilitation and treatment programs as well as teach strategies to promote client wellness and independence.
  • Assists with clients and covers unit as necessary to maintain ratio.
