POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Wellness Manager is responsible for ensuring members have the opportunity to reach their healthy living goals through education, safe facilities and quality programs.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. 

2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates personal trainers and wellness center staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. 

3. Develops, models and integrates systems and practices that encourage and sustain positive relationships and retention of members/participants. 

4. Develops and implements new program activities in accordance with strategic and operating plans. 

5. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. 

6. Manages payroll related transactions and monitor for accuracy and completeness.  

7. Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete. Maintains/keeps current personal certification requirements. 

8. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, organizes and schedules program registrations.  

9. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates program quality and enrollment. 

10. Operational support of YMCA fund raising activities and special events. 

11. Actively participates in branch, department and association staff meetings and/or related trainings.  

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Must be at least 18 years of age 

2. At least 1 year supervisory experience in customer service and/or fitness training 

3. Demonstrated success leading health & wellness-focused or equivalent team  

4. Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours 

5. Complete before first shift: YMCA cause & culture training; program-specific training; all required abuse prevention training 

6. Complete within 30 days of hire: BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration (provided by YMCA) 

7. Complete within 90 days of hire & maintained consistently: YMCA program-specific certifications and current nationally recognized Group Exercise and/or Personal Training Certification 

8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check 

9. Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.

10. Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities.

11. Screen, train, and enforce abuse prevention policies for staff.

12. Promote a reporting culture, address violations, and maintain confidentiality.

13. Ensure compliance with mandated reporting and communicate zero tolerance to all staff.

Office/recreational environment.  Intermittent sitting, standing, walking are required.   

• Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program.  

• Hours will include evening and weekend work.   

• Reliable transportation and travel among local branches may be required.
