Description of Work
The Disability Coordination Specialist provides support to the UNL community by providing outreach and assistance.
The Disability Coordination Specialist provides direct assistance to students with disabilities by:
  • Setting up accommodations.
  • Assisting in the coordination of accommodations with Faculty/Staff.
  • Following up with students about their accommodations they are using.
  • Participating in campus activities that would involve students with disabilities.
  • Providing outreach and education to students, faculty, staff and parents on the services offered and resources available.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in disability studies, rehabilitation, counseling, special education, social work, psychology, or related fields is required and/or equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Two years experience working with persons with disabilities is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and work effectively with students, faculty, and administrative constituencies required.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws related to providing disability accommodations in a university or college setting and in compliance with ADA and Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Knowledge of assistive and accessible information technologies including digital and web content.
  • Ability to evaluate learning difficulties using various diagnostic assessment tools, interpret disability documentation, recommend, and implement reasonable accommodations.
  • Strong analytical and organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in disability studies, rehabilitation, counseling, special education, social work, psychology, or related fields.
  • Experience working within higher education serving undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities.
  • Experience with Universal Design for Learning.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and engaging students.
