Position  Description

Wheeler Mission Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry whose designated purpose is religious.  We are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping those experiencing homelessness and those in need.  Wheeler Mission Ministries considers every position one of ministry and a vital and valued part of our team. Job Title: Cashier

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt  

Reports to: Thrift Store Manager

Full or Part-time: Part-Time

Team:  ­­­­Thrift Store North

 

 

Position Summary: The Cashier works under the direction of the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to carry out all retail operations in the store, including, but not limited to, creating a Christ-centered environment, register operations, customer service, store appearance and displays, and employee interactions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Key Area: Customer Service 

  • Provide friendly, respectful, and Christ-centered service to customers, donors, volunteers, and staff while representing Wheeler Mission in a manner consistent with its mission and values.
  • Assist customers with purchases, questions, and locating items while helping create a welcoming shopping experience.
  • Address customer concerns appropriately and communicate any service issues or concerns to store leadership.

Key Area: Register Operations & Store Transactions

  • Operate the cash register and accurately process cash, credit card, and other transactions according to store procedures.
  • Assist with refunds, voids, and transaction corrections while maintaining accurate records of sales activity.
  • Ensure proper handling and security of cash and report discrepancies or register issues to store management.

Key Area: Store Appearance & Retail Support

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized store environment including fitting rooms, sales floor, restrooms, and customer areas.
  • Assist with stocking shelves and clothing racks to ensure merchandise is available and accessible to customers.
  • Support store staff with merchandising tasks such as organizing displays and returning merchandise to appropriate areas.

              

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:  

This position has no direct reports but may occasionally supervise groups of volunteers at the donation center. Competencies Required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED, or HSE
  • Verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with others.

Technical/Software Knowledge:

  • Ability to learn how to manage time in payroll software

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: To perform the essential job functions of this position, with reasonable accommodations, a candidate must be able to:

  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Push/pull shopping carts and hang clothing
  • Physical ability to perform normal office functions including sitting for prolonged periods of time and the endurance to remain standing for prolonged periods of time
  • Frequently lift and move donations up to 20 pounds.
