Key Responsibilities
The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is seeking two (2) motivated and highly skilled Disability Claims Technicians to join the Disability Determination Services (DDS) team in our Salt Lake City, UT office.
Posting will be used to fill equivalent positions for 6 months.
*Telework will be considered after a 1-year training period and if all performance standards are met.
Principal Duties
The Disability Claims Technician performs the following tasks:
  • Answers incoming telephone calls regarding medical evidence, case status and required examinations.
  • Ensures the applicants for Social Security Disability benefits have a complete file containing all medical evidence related to alleged disability concerns and ensures that a quick, accurate decision is made on each applicant for disability benefits.
  • Processes claims exceptions, maintains electronic files/databases, makes authorized adjustments and corrections to claims and responds to inquiries about the status of claims and the procedures for initiating claims.
  • Input records, prepares outgoing mail, processes payment for medical records and completed examinations.
  • Researches and resends returned mail.
  • Identifies sources of medical treatment and requests medical records from providers.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
The model applicant for this position is someone who:
  • Has medical coding experience.
  • Is proficient with computers, data entry and has excellent typing skills.

Preference points will be given for the following:
  • Current or previous working experience with Disability Determination Services (DDS).
