Job description

The Disability & Accessibility Services Intern will support initiatives aimed at advancing disability inclusion, accessibility, and equitable patient care across the organization. Working closely with the Director of Quality & Accessibility Services and in collaboration with the program manager, this intern will help identify and organize community-based resources that can support patients with disabilities and their caregivers.
In addition, the intern will assist in the development of staff education materials related to Disability Sensitivity Training, with a particular focus on exploring and helping conceptualize training content related to language, respectful communication, and ableism awareness. This role is ideal for a student or emerging professional interested in health equity, disability advocacy, patient experience, accessibility, and inclusive healthcare practices.

The Disability & Accessibility Services Intern will support initiatives aimed at advancing disability inclusion, accessibility, and equitable patient care across the organization. Working closely with the Director of Quality & Accessibility Services and in collaboration with the program manager, this intern will help identify and organize community-based resources that can support patients with disabilities and their caregivers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research, compile, and help maintain a list of community-based resources, programs, and services that may benefit patients with disabilities and their families.
  • Organize resource information in a clear, accessible, and user-friendly format for team and patient use.
  • Assist in identifying gaps in existing disability-related resources and recommend opportunities for expansion.
  • Support the program manager in the design and development of Disability Sensitivity Training materials for staff.
  • Contribute to the exploration and conceptualization of training content focused on language use, disability etiquette, respectful communication, and ableism in healthcare settings.
  • Assist with drafting, formatting, and reviewing educational materials, presentations, tip sheets, or other training tools.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide project support for ongoing disability and accessibility initiatives.
  • Help with basic administrative and project coordination tasks related to accessibility and patient experience efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the team's goals.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, in public health, healthcare administration, social work, disability studies, education, communications, psychology, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in disability inclusion, accessibility, patient experience, health equity, or inclusive healthcare.
  • Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to synthesize information and present it clearly and thoughtfully.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently on assigned projects.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools.
