Directors are high-level executives responsible for overseeing a department, division, or entire organization. They set strategic goals, develop policies, and ensure that their teams execute projects effectively to meet company objectives. Directors often collaborate with other senior leaders, manage budgets, and lead decision-making processes. Their leadership is crucial for driving growth, maintaining operational efficiency, and fostering a positive organizational culture.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Director, you need strategic leadership, business acumen, and a proven track record in management, often supported by an advanced degree such as an MBA. Job description

Video Director - Purdue Global

Freelance, Contract-to-Hire | Remote (U.S.) with occasional on-site shoots in Indiana

The Opportunity

Purdue Global is expanding its YouTube presence. As a Video Director, you'll develop YouTube-first formats that make the comeback story tangible and compelling, translating Purdue Global's mission of access and opportunity into content that actually earns its views. From concept to publish, you'll own the full production process, including writing, ensuring content feels unmistakably Purdue Global: honest, human, and built for working adults.

This role reports directly to Purdue Global, with Snowball serving as the creative YouTube partner supporting the channel's strategic and creative development. You'll collaborate closely with Snowball's YouTube growth experts (27M+ subs, 110B+ views) to push creative boundaries, experiment with new formats, and help build one of the most compelling voices in online education.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and execute YouTube-first video formats aligned with Purdue Global's mission, voice, and learning philosophy
  • Write scripts and develop concepts, episode outlines, interview structures, and production plans
  • Run production logistics end-to-end
  • Direct hosts, students, faculty, and guests to capture authentic, engaging performances
  • Partner closely with editors to shape story structure, pacing, and creative vision throughout post-production
  • Collaborate with strategists, marketers, and creative teams to produce videos aligned with channel goals
  • Manage production schedules, crews, vendors, locations, and shoot-day logistics, including shoots at Purdue Global's on-campus studio
  • Continuously refine creative formats based on YouTube performance, audience insights, and best practices
  • Maintain a high creative bar while balancing efficiency, organization, and scalability
  • Partner with Snowball to analyze YouTube performance data and continuously optimize for reach, retention, and engagement
What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience producing and directing YouTube or digital-first content
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional storytelling and creative leadership
  • Strong writing skills, from scripts to interview outlines to thumbnail and title concepts
  • Experience leading productions from concept through final delivery
  • Excellent interviewing and directing skills, with the ability to make on-camera talent feel natural and confident
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with experience managing multiple productions simultaneously
  • Collaborative mindset and experience working cross-functionally with creative, production, and marketing teams
  • Confidence providing creative feedback throughout production and post-production
  • Passion for AI that actually helps people. Whether it's building smarter workflows, finding creative solutions, or making your team's day a little easier, we want to know how you're using AI to make a real impact, not just checking a box.
Bonus
  • Experience producing educational, career, or personal-transformation content
  • Experience working with higher education, edtech, or mission-driven brands
  • Deep understanding of YouTube storytelling, audience retention, pacing, and viewer engagement
  • Experience helping build or grow YouTube channels
