Job Description: Varsity Girls SoccerHead Coach  

  • Cooperative Agreement with/at Ligonier Valley - Derry Area Head Coach will serve as an assistant coach on Ligonier Valley's coaching staff 

Reports To: Athletic Director

Job Overview:

The Head Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the assigned athletic program while promoting the educational mission of the Derry Area School District. The Head Coach will provide leadership, organization, supervision, and instruction for student-athletes while fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and character development. The position includes oversight of all levels of the program, communication with stakeholders, and compliance with all district, league, and state athletic regulations.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required (Bachelor's Degree preferred)
  • Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport preferred
  • Knowledge of PIAA, WPIAL, and NFHS rules and regulations
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to supervise and motivate student-athletes and assistant coaches
  • Current required clearances and certifications as mandated by the district and state regulations
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or ability to obtain certification

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all PIAA, WPIAL, NFHS, and Derry Area School District rules, regulations, and policies related to athletics
  • Establish and oversee the philosophy, culture, expectations, and style of play for the entire program
  • Organize and supervise all practices, contests, team activities, and offseason opportunities in accordance with district and league regulations
  • Promote sportsmanship, integrity, leadership, teamwork, discipline, and character development while serving as a positive role model for student-athletes
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches and oversee all levels of the program, including varsity, junior varsity, and middle school where applicable
  • Ensure all student-athletes meet eligibility requirements and complete required physical, medical, and participation documentation prior to participation
  • Maintain open and professional communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, administration, athletic trainers, officials, and community members
  • Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director, athletic trainer, school nurse, district administration and team physician regarding injuries, medical clearances, emergency procedures, and return-to-play protocols
  • Coordinate scheduling, transportation, equipment, uniforms, and operational needs for the program
  • Develop and manage the program budget and maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and uniforms
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive environment that prioritizes student-athlete health, safety, academic achievement, and personal growth
  • Supervise student-athlete conduct and represent the school district professionally during contests, travel, school functions, and public appearances
  • Support and participate in school and community activities that promote the athletic program and school district
  • Assist in promoting the athletic program through communication with media, community members, youth programs, and school-sponsored events
  • Perform additional duties related to the athletic program as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration
  • Follow all Derry Area and Ligonier Valley (LV) School District rules, regulations and policies
  • Would report directly to the Derry Area Athletic Director, with additional situational supervision provided by the Ligonier Valley Athletic Director as needed
