Job Description

Under the direction of the Fabrication Training and Development Manager, work with supervisors to coordinate the training and development of production staff. Direct the implementation of technical skills development and training initiatives for newly hired welding employees. Ensure equipment and welding personnel are performing to industry standards. Perform such work consistent with corporate mission, values and departmental financial objectives.
Essential Functions:
  • Provide on-the-job training of the company's welding processes to all new hires.
  • Conduct ongoing training to develop the skills of all Canam Bridges production employees.
  • Inform and educate trainees of the fundamentals of reading and interpreting weld symbols on shop drawings and blueprints.
  • Aid in evaluating the skill level and competency of production welders.
  • Self inspect and ensure that all welds are complete and of good quality.
  • Effectively communicate with individuals and teams by using positive interaction skills and the key principles of communication.
  • Work with supervisors, providing recommendations for improving or developing employee skills.
  • Ensure all trainees are capable of producing a product that meets recognized standards and customer expectations.
  • Work closely with quality control to help expedite employee certifications.
  • Communicate with the quality control and production departments to maintain and improve welding quality and production.
  • Maintain familiarity with up to date bridge welding codes.
  • Provide professional assistance and expertise and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the department.
  • Troubleshoot welding equipment and assist all welding personnel with welding issues.
  • Advise Production Supervisors on welding personnel, welding processes, and techniques for continued improvement and productivity development.
  • Assist with welding Research and Development projects.
  • Perform the welding of PQR's when needed.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Maintain consumable inventory for welding; ie fluxes, wires, etc.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned by the Fabrication Training and Development Manager.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the selection and evaluation of welders.
  • Ensure compliance and enforcement of business rules.
  • Work with the HR department with retention and attraction of the welding workforce.
  • Optimize working methods by our standards and projects.
  • Master all company's welding processes in our activities.
  • Work in a safe and conscientious manner.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of two years related welding experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have passed the test and received (3G) certificate for SMAW (stick) weld test for unlimited thickness.
  • Must have passed the test and received (3G) certificate for FCAW (Flux Core)
  • Have experience in the use of SAW-A and SAW-SA welding equipment (Submerged arc) and pass Qualification test (1G).
  • Have experience and knowledge of the use of Arc Gouging equipment.
  • Ability to make neat, accurate cuts using a manual and mechanized cutting torch.
  • Maintain up to date welding certifications.
  • Must meet all new welding certifications.
  • CWI strongly preferred.
  • Understand typical shop drawings and procedures.

Additional Information
Physical Demands:
The ability to stand continuously is essential with occasional walking and sitting. The nature of the position will require the employee to perform a wide range of physical activities ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects (60-100 lb) to climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling. Repetitive finger motions are required. Vision requirements include, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
Work Environment:
Works near moving mechanical parts and in extremes of temperature, sometimes outside; is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles; there is occasional exposure to risk of flash burn of the eyes and exposed skin; the noise level in the work environment is generally very loud.
