Staff Transmission Engineer
Location: Houston, TX or Austin, TX (must be open to working within one of these locations)
Job Type: Full-Time / Direct Hire

We are seeking a Staff Transmission Engineer to support high-voltage overhead transmission line projects. This role will be responsible for engineering design, technical execution, and oversight of transmission line systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience across the full design lifecycle and can contribute both independently and as part of a growing engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform, lead, and oversee engineering activities related to overhead transmission line design
  • Develop transmission line layouts including routing, structure spotting, and clearance analysis
  • Complete PLS-CADD modeling and related engineering calculations (sag-tension, blowout, swing angle, etc.)
  • Conduct structure analysis and loading calculations for transmission systems
  • Prepare construction drawings, design specifications, and cost estimates
  • Support material selection including conductor, hardware, and structural components
  • Provide field installation support and collaborate with construction teams as needed
  • Review engineering work for quality and compliance with design standards
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and support staff
  • Interface with internal teams and external stakeholders on project execution
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in transmission line engineering (overhead required)
  • Strong understanding of high-voltage transmission systems
  • Experience with transmission voltages ranging approximately from 66 kV up to 765 kV
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD and related tools (PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER)
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret results accurately
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain
  • Experience with EPC-style project environments
  • Prior experience serving as a technical lead or performing quality reviews
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for transmission design
  • PMP certification is a plus
Travel Requirements:
  • Approximately 5%–20% travel depending on project needs
