Job description

Requirements: High School Diploma
Preferred: Coaching Experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Strong interpersonal skills in order to address difficult situations such as priority setting and personnel issues. Additionally, must develop on-going working relationships with a variety of patrons, community agencies, and school administration.
2. Aquatic Certification to include the following:
a. Water Safety Instructor
b. Aquatics Facility Manager
c. Certified Pool Operator
d. CPR
e. First Aid
f. LGI (Lifeguard Instructor), preferred
3. Thorough knowledge of pool management and safety requirements
4. Aquatic teaching experience.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Swim Director is ultimately responsible for assessing the aquatic needs of the school system and the general community to determine the most effective utilization and programs to address the varying needs. This position ensures efficient and effective communication in the setting of the overall direction of the facility.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Organizes and directs all swimming pool activities.
2. Schedules all recreational, instructional, and competitive activities.
3. Ensures proper training and monitoring of lifeguards and instructor staff.
4. Schedules lifeguards/instructional staff.
5. Monitors staff for valid and current certifications.
6. Ensures Board of Health regulations are followed.
7. Plan and conduct in-service training for lifeguards and instructors.
8. Assists in setup and break down of equipment for competitive swim meets.
9. Schedules community recreational swims.
10. Schedules and supervises American Red Cross certified swim lessons to community.
11. Enforces facility rules, regulations and policies.
12. Purchase equipment and teaching aids for swim lesson program.
13. Works in conjunction with maintenance staff to:
a. ensure pool chemicals are regulated
b. ensure natatorium is in safe operating condition
c. assist with changing underwater lighting
d. ensure chemicals are delivered and stored properly
e. ensure swimming locker/team rooms are kept clean and sanitized
f. ensure natatorium is kept clean and properly sanitized
g. ensure weekly water sample is submitted to Board of Health
14. Provide central office with aquatic staff payroll hours.
15. Publicize events, open facility hours, swim lessons, etc.
16. Any other duties as assigned by Administration.
17. Nurture a positive relationship with super-ordinates, subordinates and peers.
18. Demonstrate respect for super-ordinates, subordinates and peers.
19. Support corporation decisions and direction relative to matters of policy and administrative directives. Work as a team player.
20. Demonstrate ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner.
21. Address concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential manner.
22. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
