  • Conduct and document instrument, sponge, and sharps counts
  • Handle and label surgical specimens per protocol
  • Ensure all equipment and instruments are available and functioning prior to procedures
  • Assist with room turnover and preparation for subsequent cases

Workflow & Operational Responsibilities

  • Coordinate closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia to ensure on-time case starts and efficient turnover
  • Prioritize instrument processing based on case urgency and schedule changes
  • Maintain strict compliance with AAMI, AORN, CDC, OSHA, and accreditation standards
  • Act as a key contributor to infection prevention and patient safety initiatives
  • Support a high-volume, fast-paced outpatient surgical environment
Requirements:

  • Current BLS certification
  • 2+ years of experience in surgical and/or sterile processing roles, preferably in OB/GYN or ambulatory surgery
  • Strong knowledge of gynecologic instrumentation and minimally invasive procedures
  • Solid understanding of sterilization standards and infection control practices
  • Ability to multitask and transition between SPD and OR responsibilities efficiently

Core Competencies

  • Ability to work under tight turnover times and case volume pressure
  • Effective communication and teamwork in a small, cross-functional team
  • High level of accountability for patient safety and surgical outcomes

Work Environment

  • High-efficiency workflow with emphasis on speed, accuracy, and coordination
  • Oversee sterilization processes supporting both the ASC and clinic operations, where applicable
