The University of New England invites applications for a BSW Practicum Director and Assistant Clinical Professor. This position provides leadership and coordination of practicum education while supporting the preparation of undergraduate social work students for professional practice in a dynamic and evolving field. We welcome applications from candidates committed to student success, community engagement, and preparing graduates to address complex social challenges. This is a 9-month faculty appointment.
The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at the UNE School of Social Work offers a fully on-campus program located in Biddeford, Maine. The School of Social Work offers BSW, MSW, and DSW degrees. The BSW program is also part of the undergraduate Health Promotion Studies Department, which includes majors in Public Health, Nutrition, Occupational Studies, and Social Work, reflecting UNE's commitment to interprofessional education and collaborative practice.

Responsibilities
Twenty-five percent (25%) of this position is dedicated to serving as the BSW Practicum Director. The BSW Practicum Director ensures the integrity of undergraduate practicum placements; establishes strong and enduring partnerships with community agencies; serves as a resource to agency practicum instructors; and supports BSW students in achieving their educational goals through practicum (internship) experiences. The BSW Practicum Director works closely with the BSW Program Director to develop curriculum that ensures alignment between classroom learning and practicum experiences.
Seventy-five percent (75%) of the Assistant Clinical Professor role is dedicated to teaching and curriculum development. Responsibilities include in-person teaching assignments at our campus in Biddeford, Maine. Additional responsibilities include advising students, engaging in innovative curriculum development with a focus on experiential and case-based learning, and participating in service activities within and outside of the University of New England. Candidates should have experience, or the ability to teach, a range of core courses across the social work generalist curriculum, including Social Welfare Policy, Human Behavior and the Social Environment, Practicum Seminars, and Social Work Generalist Practice.

Responsibilities include:
  • Teach 18 credits per academic year.
  • Build, revise, and update curriculum in collaboration with faculty colleagues.
  • Coordinate and execute practicum planning for BSW students.
  • Support students in developing the professional skills and knowledge necessary to secure practicum placements and successfully meet practicum education competencies and requirements outlined in the learning contract.
  • Maintain familiarity with CSWE accreditation standards, competencies, and practice behaviors.
  • Participate in the CSWE accreditation process as required.
  • Maintain familiarity with the University of New England School of Social Work practicum curriculum, the Practicum Education Manual, and the UNE Student Handbook, and update materials as needed.
  • Develop and maintain supportive relationships with students through academic advising and practicum planning activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with practicum instructors through regularly scheduled check-ins and practicum site visits, and provide problem-solving support and consultation as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of interprofessional education (IPE) principles and practices, and participate as an IPE mentor and facilitator.
  • Engage in service to the department, college, and university.
  • Effectively utilize appropriate technology and learning management systems necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the Assistant Clinical Professor role.
Qualifications
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree required; PhD, EdD, or DSW preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant practicum education program management experience, preferably in higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.
  • Demonstrated leadership, creativity, and program development skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
