SUMMARY:

The Hollow Structural Sections (HSS) sales engineer is responsible for providing technical support to the design community, which includes owners, architects, engineers, contractors, fabricators and suppliers.

We are seeking a technically skilled and client-focused sales engineer with deep expertise in HSS and HSS connection details. This role bridges the gap between engineering and sales, supporting business development through technical presentations, client consultations, and educational outreach.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct lunch & learns and technical presentations at architecture and structural engineering firms as well as GC offices to educate and promote HSS solutions.
  2. Serve as the technical expert on HSS products and connection details, supporting sales efforts with structural engineers, general contractors (GCs), and fabricators.
  3. Collaborate with the marketing and sales teams to develop targeted messaging and materials for HSS applications.
  4. Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support, including design assistance, connection detailing, and troubleshooting.
  5. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the construction and engineering communities.
  6. Stay current on industry standards, sustainability, codes, and innovations related to HSS and steel construction.
  7. Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and industry events.
  8. Represents our company with active involvement in industry associations.
  9. Acts as a subject matter expert to advise both internally & externally.
  1. Use construction project intelligence tools to build and manage a pipeline of early-stage opportunities, coordinating outreach to key project decision-makers to drive HSS specification and design optimization.
  2. Create and share engineering tools, connection guidelines, or resources to help designers specify HSS most efficiently.


REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to travel up to 50% of the time for client meetings, presentations, and events.
  2. Familiarity with AISC Design Guide 24 and other relevant HSS resources.
  3. Experience using structural design software (e.g., RISA, RAM, Tekla, AutoCAD).
  4. Experience conducting technical presentations or educational sessions.
  5. Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams to ensure constructive and productive business relationships.
  7. Good communication skills including the ability to give and receive oral and written instruction, excellent presentation skills and an ability provide information to internal and external customers, visitors, vendors, and employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in structural engineering
  1. 5+ years of experience in structural steel design, with a strong focus on HSS and connection detailing.
  2. Licensed Professional Engineer (SE PE or P. Eng), enhancing trust and credibility
  3. Direct experience with connection design working for an engineering firm or fabricator/erection company is a plus
