Job description

DMBA (Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators) is a non-profit organization that administers benefits for companies who are owned or affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
About the Role
We're seeking a seasoned Appian Low-Code Lead Architect to own the design, development, and operational excellence of a suite of mission-critical applications. You'll partner with product owners, engineering teams, and stakeholders to define architecture principles, ensure scalability, resilience, and maintainability, and drive best practices across the organization. This role offers true end-to-end ownership-from high-level strategy and roadmap planning through deployments, performance tuning, and governance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and design end-to-end Appian solutions aligned with strategic business goals.
  • Define and enforce platform standards, governance models, and reusable design patterns.
  • Lead application lifecycle management: CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployments, and environment promotion.
  • Advise on infrastructure architecture for high availability, load balancing, container orchestration, and cloud hosting.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and security teams to integrate DevSecOps practices, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Mentor and coach development teams on SAIL scripting, process modeling, data modeling, and advanced integrations (REST, SOAP, JDBC, event-driven).
  • Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and load testing to meet SLAs under high concurrency.
  • Evaluate and implement custom plug-ins, RPA, and advanced document-generation frameworks.
  • Engage with clients and internal stakeholders to gather requirements, present architectural tradeoffs, and guide solution adoption.

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience delivering enterprise low-code BPM solutions, including 3+ years in an architect or lead-developer capacity.
  • Deep expertise in Appian platform components (Process Models, Interfaces, Records, Rules, CDT) or equivalent low-code tools.
  • Proven track record designing scalable, high-performance architectures on public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Strong background in data architecture: secure relational data models, data migrations, and data fabric patterns.
  • Solid integration experience with RESTful APIs, SOAP services, message queues, and enterprise systems (e.g., Salesforce, SAP, ServiceNow).
  • Familiarity with containerization, microservices design, and orchestration platforms.
  • Exceptional communication skills, comfortable presenting complex technical concepts to stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum typing speed of 50 WPM.

Preferred Skills
  • Appian Certified Lead Developer or equivalent certification in low-code platforms.
  • Experience developing or customizing Appian plug-ins, Smart Services, or Connected Systems.
  • Background in RPA or IDP solutions, AI/ML integration, or advanced document generation.
  • Master's degree in a technical discipline.

What success looks like
  • Measurable improvement in application stability and decrease in production issues and bug ticket generations.
  • High adoption and confidence from business teams in low-code solutions and operations.
  • Reduced rework through high code quality and load balancing.
  • Predictable, on-time releases with clear release notes.

Location and work model
  • This is a remote role within the U.S. with occasional in-office presence in Salt Lake City, Utah.

What We Offer:
  • Competitive pay
  • Rich medical, vision and dental benefits with low premiums. One of the top health plans in Utah
