This position is based in Gary, Indiana, supporting dedicated transportation operations.

The operation plays a critical role in coordinating daily freight movement, managing driver activity, supporting customer requirements, and ensuring seamless communication between customers, drivers, dispatch, and operational leadership.

Position Overview

The Route Supervisor is responsible for supporting the day-to-day execution of transportation operations while ensuring customer expectations, service requirements, and operational goals are consistently achieved. This role provides direct support to drivers and operational personnel while helping maintain a safe, efficient, and customer-focused operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily routes and driver assignments to ensure on-time service and customer satisfaction
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for drivers, customers, dispatch, and operations leadership
  • Monitor freight movement and proactively communicate shipment updates, delays, and service issues
  • Support driver scheduling, attendance tracking, and workforce planning activities
  • Ensure drivers are operating safely and in compliance with company policies and DOT regulations
  • Investigate and resolve transportation, service, and driver-related issues
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to drivers
  • Track operational KPIs related to service, safety, productivity, attendance, and equipment utilization
  • Maintain accurate reports, operational documentation, and compliance records
  • Assist with fleet utilization, route planning, and daily operational execution
  • Collaborate with customer representatives to resolve concerns and support service requirements
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and customer service
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency and performance
  • Assist management with staffing, employee development, and day-to-day operational leadership
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, Business, or related field is a plus
  • Previous experience in transportation, dispatch, logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, customer service, or operations environments preferred
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to lead, coach, and hold employees accountable
  • Working knowledge of transportation operations and DOT regulations preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing operational needs
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
