Position Summary
The Observation Unit Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care for patients requiring short-term monitoring, evaluation, and treatment. This position coordinates all aspects of patient care, including assessment, education, care planning, discharge planning, and transitions of care.
Working within the Nursing Professional Practice Model and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates individualized care while collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, efficient, and exceptional patient outcomes.
Observation Unit nurses care for a wide variety of medical conditions, making this an excellent opportunity to expand clinical knowledge while developing strong assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills.
What You'll Do
Deliver Exceptional Patient Care
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for observation patients
  • Monitor changing patient conditions and respond promptly using sound clinical judgment
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and accurately
  • Coordinate admissions, observation care, discharge planning, and transitions when inpatient admission is needed
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and follow-up care
Collaborate with the Healthcare Team
  • Partner with physicians, case managers, therapists, and ancillary departments to coordinate timely, high-quality care
  • Serve as a patient advocate while promoting safety, efficiency, and positive patient outcomes
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and quality improvement initiatives
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to fellow nursing staff as appropriate

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record
  • Follow evidence-based nursing practices and hospital policies

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required
  • Current Idaho Registered Nurse (RN) License required
  • One year of RN experience preferred
  • Previous Medical-Surgical, Observation, Emergency Department, or Acute Care nursing experience highly preferred
  • ACLS and PALS certification preferred and required within one year of hire
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems preferred
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple patient needs while delivering safe, compassionate care
