Job description

Senior Property Tax Specialist (Buffalo, Syracuse, or Other Locations)

Barclay Damon LLP, a leading regional law firm of approximately 300 attorneys that operates from a strategic platform of offices located in Albany, Boston, Buffalo, New Haven, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse, Washington DC, and Toronto, is seeking an experienced consultant professional for a sophisticated, national real property tax practice. No book of business is required. โ€œConsultant professionalโ€ for this position could include an accountant, tax professional, or energy or other professional with similar a background and a minimum of ten years of experience in property tax management or property tax or income tax return preparation.

The position requires experience in preparing annual filings or annual returns, paying property tax bills, handling audits, negotiating and complying with PILOT agreements, preparing tax projections, and managing team members. Experience on a multi-jurisdictional or national basis in the valuation and assessment of energy or utility assets for local and state real property tax assessment purposes, M&A due diligence, complex litigation or expert testimony, interpretation and utilization of expert appraisal reports, or a working knowledge of regional energy markets would be a plus. Relevant real property tax experience is also a plus, but a CPA license is not necessary for candidates with the right experience or other relevant credentials.

The preferred location for the position is Syracuse or Buffalo, New York, but other locations, including Albany, Boston, New Haven, New York City, Rochester, or Washington DC, or a remote work situation may be considered for the right candidate.

This position will manage engagements for a team of professionals providing property tax compliance services to multiple large-scale independent power producers, distributed generation developers or owners, and energy storage developers or operators, largely in the renewable energy sector. Additional services will focus on assistance in the development of greenfield or repowering projects, including due diligence analysis and preparation of long-term property tax projections.

This salary range represents the firmโ€™s good-faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for the position and does not include performance- or merit-based bonuses or other benefits offered by the firm. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidateโ€™s years of experience, qualifications, skill set, and office location.

Barclay Damon is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
