Job description

Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on end-to-end design, analysis, and validation of complex multi-rail board power architectures for high-reliability electronic systems. The electrical engineer defines and implements power solutions for FPGA/SoC platforms, memory, and high-power peripheral loads, with a strong emphasis on switching regulator design, power integrity, and robust hardware performance. The position offers the opportunity to support next-generation satellite systems and contribute to advanced electric vehicle and aerospace-related applications, with potential for conversion to a full-time role.

Responsibilities

  • Define the complete board power architecture, including rail planning, power budgeting, sequencing, and power-state or power-mode design for FPGAs, SoCs, memory, and peripheral loads.
  • Design DC-DC converters such as buck and multiphase regulators, low-dropout regulators (LDOs), and load switches, including component selection and margin or derating analysis.
  • Design and analyze the power distribution network (PDN) to ensure stable, efficient, and reliable power delivery across all rails.
  • Own power sequencing and supervision, including implementation of supervisors, inrush control, and protection features such as UVLO, OVP, and OCP.
  • Lead power bring-up activities in the lab, ensuring that all rails and power modes function as intended under real-world conditions.
  • Debug and characterize power supplies using power analyzers, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and thermal analysis tools.
  • Develop, write, and execute comprehensive power test plans across voltage and temperature corners, and document test results clearly and thoroughly.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for power-related failures, using structured debug methodologies and data-driven approaches.
  • Contribute to manufacturing readiness by applying design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-test (DFT) principles to power circuits.
  • Create and maintain bring-up procedures and test documentation to support production and manufacturing test teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical and systems engineering, to co-design thermal and power solutions for high-reliability applications.
  • Support the development of next-generation satellite and high-power electric vehicle or aerospace systems through robust power electronics design.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience designing hardware with a focus on power and board-level design.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a multi-rail board power design from schematic through bring-up and characterization.
  • Strong fundamentals in switching and linear regulator design, including magnetics selection and control-loop or stability basics.
  • Hands-on experience designing switching regulators and having completed such designs in prior roles.
  • Practical experience in power distribution network (PDN) design and power integrity.
  • Experience with power sequencing, supervisors, load switches, inrush control, and protection features such as undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage protection (OVP), and overcurrent protection (OCP).
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design using Xpedition or similar electronic design automation tools such as Siemens Xpedition, Cadence, or Altium.
  • Hands-on lab proficiency with power analyzers, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and structured debug methodologies.
  • Ability to read datasheets and device power specifications and translate them into a correct, robust power tree.
  • Experience with high-power design for applications such as electric vehicles or other high-power systems, rather than only low-power consumer electronics.
  • Familiarity with Mentor Graphics Xpedition XDX Designer or similar tools.
  • Experience in power supply and power electronics design, including use of Xpedition or SPICE-based simulation tools.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience delivering power solutions for FPGAs and SoCs, including core, transceiver-analog, and memory rails.
  • Power integrity simulation experience using tools such as Sigrity or PowerSI, HyperLynx, ANSYS, or similar platforms.
  • Exposure to battery or solar-based power systems, particularly in spacecraft or other high-reliability environments.
  • Experience with radiation-aware or high-reliability power design for aerospace or space applications.
  • Thermal analysis experience and the ability to co-design thermal solutions with mechanical engineering teams.
  • Scripting skills for test automation and data analysis, using Python or similar languages.
  • Aerospace experience, especially related to satellites or high-reliability platforms, is highly preferred.
  • Experience with electric vehicle or EV-related power systems is highly beneficial.
  • Interest in contributing to next-generation satellite programs and long-term conversion to a full-time position.
