The Senior Manager, Software and Software Quality Engineering, leads a high-performing team of Software and QA engineers supporting both new development and sustaining efforts. This role drives the strategy, architecture, and execution of next-generation software platforms that power innovative, software-enabled hardware products.  Responsible for end-to-end leadership across the software development lifecycle, the Sr. Manager ensures scalable architectures, high-quality code, robust test automation, and predictable releases. The role is rooted in R&D, with a focus on early-stage concepting, rapid prototyping, and scaling emerging technologies into production-ready systems.

As a hands-on technical leader, you will connect advanced engineering, user-driven innovation, and business strategy, while mentoring and developing top engineering talent. This position emphasizes technical leadership, experimentation, and forward-looking platform development over traditional product ownership.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Define and drive a forward-looking software R&D strategy aligned with long-term innovation roadmaps
  • Lead early-stage technology exploration, including prototyping, feasibility studies, and evaluation of emerging technologies (cloud, AI/ML, IoT, edge computing)
  • Collaborate with the corporate Quantum Leap program on AI initiatives for the brand
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across the full SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle), including architecture, design, development, and deployment
  • Establish scalable architecture, API, and cloud-native development best practices to support modern software platforms
  • Lead development of software platforms supporting hardware NPD, including platform modernization and cloud integration to enable future SaaS capabilities
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of software and QA engineers, fostering collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence
  • Utilize known network of outside software agencies to help team scale software platforms
  • Drive execution of software initiatives with a focus on quality, reliability, and predictable delivery timelines
  • Ensure world-class performance and reliability across desktop, web, and mobile applications
  • Oversee comprehensive quality engineering practices, including test strategy, test case development, and execution across functional, regression, integration, system, and performance testing
  • Lead the design and implementation of automated test frameworks aligned with the development tech stack
  • Oversee sustaining engineering activities, including supporting integrations and maintaining performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction across existing software ecosystems
  • Partner cross-functionally with firmware, program management, marketing and front end innovation teams to align development with business objectives
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies, testing tools, and industry trends to continuously improve engineering and QA effectiveness

Job Qualifications 

Education, Experience and Leadership Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field required
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 5+ years leading Software Development and SQA teams (manual and automation)
  • Direct management of cross-functional teams (Developers + QA + DevOps)
  • Experience scaling teams and building engineering capability
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire and develop teams
  • Proven record of delivering complex software products on schedule and within scope
  • Experience leading both new product development and sustaining engineering
  • Excellent communication skills combined with cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills

Technical Expertise

  • Strong foundation in software architecture, design, development, testing and deployment to include experience with desktop, web based and mobile applications
  • Strong understanding of SQA methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Hands-on experience writing test cases, test scripts, and maintaining automated test suites.
  • Thorough knowledge of major platforms including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android
  • Proficiency with modern frameworks, programming languages and development tools to include:
  • Deep expertise in .NET (Core / .NET 6/7/8+)
  • Strong knowledge of C#, ASP.NET Core, Web API, Blazor
  • Experience with desktop applications (WPF / WinForms/ Maui)
  • Understanding of MAUI / mobile integration
  • Microservices & distributed system architecture
  • RESTful API design & integration
  • Secure coding best practices
  • Microsoft Azure architecture & services with Git Hub.
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development methodologies
  • Demonstrates experience with consumer research translating to software solutions

Strategic Mindset and Additional Attributes

  • Ability to identify and evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends
  • Experience translating long-term software opportunities into actionable strategies
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Knowledge of printing systems, fonts or graphics a plus
