Job description

Essential Functions:
  • Perform hands-on programming/debugging/troubleshooting of numerous types of automation equipment. Assist Maintenance/Production team members as a resource for troubleshooting equipment.
  • Provide consultation, analysis, evaluation and review of problems regarding automation, advanced methods and equipment. Assists in the development of new products or processes and systems. Contributes to research and development projects to meet future demands when necessary.
  • Monitor process performance in order to identify areas for improvement, coordinating corrective actions as necessary. Ensure that process standards correspond to the plant's objectives, costs and supply in order to meet the needs of the customer. Initiate studies and actions to improve the efficiency of the plant.
  • Assist with mechanical improvements through TPM, PM, and Capital Expenditure Projects. Assist with the commissioning of new plant and equipment and other systems to ensure that this introduction into the production facility is handled efficiently and with minimum disruption.
  • System/Project design, costing and implementation from concept to completion to include capital improvement programs. Coordinate all project controls/electrical activities to ensure that project timing, quality, and cost targets are attained. Supervise and/or direct contractors, suppliers, or other technical people as required. Act at times as the overall project manager on highly automated/high controls-content projects
  • Works in compliance with all safety rules and regulations to provide and support a safe working environment and reliable, ergonomic systems and machines. Will develop safeguards and improve team member safety through process improvements.
  • Maintain/update mechanical and site drawings. Designs, develops, implements, and modifies production equipment, procedures and processes. Write detailed technical specifications for projects, equipment, and processes.
  • Ensure equipment and layouts are compliant with current Safety and Environmental guidelines, local and national electrical codes.
  • Trains team members in Equipment operation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), problem solving, ME Techniques (5S & TPM) and ensure regular audits for the maintenance of such procedures.
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or automated systems environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • PLC and HMI programming and troubleshooting
    • Industrial automation systems (robots, servo systems, drives and controls)
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, motors and control systems
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD or similar)
  • Strong computer, networking, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications Desired:
  • Experience with robotics programming (e.g., ABB, Fanuc)
  • Knowledge of motion control, vision systems, and advanced automation technologies.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and industrial control platforms.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or continuous improvement certification

Work Environment Scope:
  • Supports a manufacturing facility with multiple automated production cells and diverse customer requirements.
  • Regular interaction with cross-functional teams, vendors, and leadership.
  • Responsible for technical input on capital expenditures and equipment improvements.

Salary Range: $97,419.00 - $133,608.00
