Job description

The Director, Product Management is expected to develop, communicate, and implement the company's product strategy and drive the product management team towards achieving and surpassing company strategic, revenue and profitability goals and objectives. This position identifies profitable growth opportunities, complexity & cost reduction levers, and sets long-term strategy & roadmaps to create sustainable profitable growth. In order to do this, this individual will work cross functionally with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing & Supply Chain to gain a deep understanding of end-user & market insights, channel & competitive dynamics, innovation & technology pipelines, and operational capabilities.
The Director, Product Management will be at the center of the product development ecosystem, collaborating with end-users and retailers to create innovations that fulfill mutually beneficial objectives, and empowering product managers to make decisions aligned with the company's strategy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Develop product portfolio vision and 3-year new product roadmap that aligns with the company's competitive strategy for traditional vehicle battery charging & instant starting, electric vehicle supply equipment, and adjacent categories
  • Responsible for overall success of each product line from end-user satisfaction, market share and financial perspectives
  • Develop and maintain a robust portfolio of product introductions maintaining a superior vitality index
  • Lead product managers in optimizing end-user value & willingness-to-pay, and competitive positioning to determine Manufacturer Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) & Minimum Advertised Prices (MAP)
  • Coordinate with marketing and industrial design in creating a robust process for gathering end-user insights throughout the product development process
  • Encourage cross-functional collaboration and re-focus project managers on delivering programs on-time, on-budget and within scope
  • Ensure all sales and support tactics are prepared to be executed before new products reach the market
  • Seek out continuous improvement opportunities by understanding competitors' value propositions, analyzing quality data, conducting Value Analysis/Value Engineering events, lessons learned analysis, and monitoring point of sale activity
  • Utilization of a data-driven approach towards decision making, leveraging datasets spanning consumer insights, market data, service levels, sales data, and more
  • Ensure the product management team has the necessary processes and procedures in place to manage the quality, cost, and delivery of products; identify areas for improvement and ensure team takes action when corrections are needed
  • Serve as the product manager for emerging adjacent categories
  • Coach product managers in discerning winning from losing new product concepts
  • Build a high performing team and coach/mentor staff, ensuring their development & retention

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Business acumen to create sustainable competitive advantages, technical expertise to problem solve with engineers and executive presence to persuade stakeholders
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills with a proven ability for improving product management processes & practices that increase efficiency & effectiveness
  • Proficient with the financial tools required to make estimates, and strategic decisions
  • Excellent diplomacy and communication skills
  • Effectively presents value propositions to customers
  • Embraces consumer centricity and well-versed in design principles
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field required; MBA preferred
  • At least 7 years' product management experience with products, tools or equipment for consumers or professionals
