Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Executive Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Health and Wellness Director is responsible for all operations of our health and wellness department and facilities, including but not limited to: staff scheduling, ensuring safety and cleanliness of the fitness center/group exervcise/functional training center, department budgets, incentive programs and maintenance of the equipment in the fitness center.

KNOW HOW

Incumbent must pass YMCA background checks and successfully complete and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications or the ability to acquire them within 30 days of employment.

  • BA/BS degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma (nationally accredited certification in personal training/group exercise is a plus)
  • 4 year degree in health and wellness or related field/work experience preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in fitness field and customer service
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be attentive to details, be able to work with and meet deadlines, take initiative to develop and provide information and controls necessary for efficient office operations
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have excellent human relation skills and member service skills
  • Must be able to take initiative in making decisions and solving problems in the areas of assigned responsibilities
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in a responsible and professional manner
  • Ability to work efficiently, independently, and as part of a team
  • Display a personal commitment to consistent quality customer service

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

  • R.O.S.T.E.R. (recruit, orient, supervise, train, monitor, evaluate and reward) all Health and Wellness Staff.
  • Responsible for working with personal training clients and assisting with personal training program.
  • Responsible for the group exercise department including scheduling, teaching, etc.
  • Oversight of fitness center staffing schedules, cleanliness and equipment maintenance
  • Oversee fitness orientation schedules on the google calendar.
  • Serve on Health and Wellness Council.
  • Oversee bulletin board and member newsletter information.
  • Responsible for responding to fitness center comment log in a timely manner.
  • Assist with departmental service evaluations.
  • Promote YMCA facilities, programs, and events.
  • Enforce fitness center policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities and other duties & activities as assigned by supervisor or Leadership staff.

  • Provide a diverse offering of group exercise classes, meeting the needs of our members.
