ABOUT THE POSITION
The Vice President, Program Management Office (PMO) is responsible for the successful execution of Fluence's global product portfolio and serves as the executive leader for enterprise program execution across the Product Business Unit. Reporting to the Head of Product Business Unit, this executive leads the global Program Management organization responsible for product development governance, integrated planning, portfolio execution, stage-gate management, financial governance, engineering change control, resource planning, launch readiness, and cross-functional execution. Working in partnership with Product Management, Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Software & Controls Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, and Customer Success, this leader ensures products are delivered on schedule, within development budgets, and with the operational readiness required for successful commercialization.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Executive Leadership
• Develop and execute the long-term Program Management strategy aligned with the Product Business Unit strategy, product roadmap, and business objectives.
• Establish the global Program Management operating model governing execution across Product Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Customer Success.
• Develop long-term investment strategies supporting PMO capabilities, integrated planning systems, portfolio management tools, dashboards, and execution excellence.
• Establish annual operating objectives, PMO KPIs, resource plans, organizational priorities, and capability development strategies.
• Serve as a member of the Product Business Unit Leadership Team, contributing to strategic planning, portfolio prioritization, investment decisions, and business performance.
Program & Portfolio Leadership
• Lead execution of Fluence's global product development portfolio, ensuring programs are delivered on schedule, within approved development budgets, and aligned with business objectives.
• Establish enterprise program governance, integrated master planning, dependency management, executive reviews, and portfolio reporting processes.
• Own stage-gate governance, executive decision forums, milestone approvals, and program health assessments.
• Lead cross-functional coordination across Product Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, and Customer Success.
• Drive executive visibility into portfolio health, resource utilization, financial performance, schedule adherence, technical risks, and program dependencies.
• Lead strategic program recovery initiatives, executive escalations, and enterprise risk mitigation.
Financial Governance & Business Execution
• Own financial governance for the Product Business Unit development portfolio, including development budgets, investment planning, resource forecasting, capital planning, and program financial performance.
• Partner with Product Management and Finance to develop business cases, investment analyses, portfolio prioritization, and ROI assessments.
• Monitor development spending, forecast accuracy, schedule performance, and portfolio financial health.
• Establish governance processes ensuring disciplined investment management and executive accountability.
Product Lifecycle Leadership
• Lead program execution from concept development through development, verification, validation, NPI, production launch, hypercare, sustainment, refreshes, and end-of-life planning.
• Own engineering change governance, configuration control, release planning, and cross-functional execution readiness.
• Ensure executive readiness reviews are completed before major product milestones and launch decisions.
Manufacturing & Operational Readiness
• Lead cross-functional launch readiness planning across Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Operations.
• Establish governance for manufacturing readiness, supply readiness, production planning, launch milestones, and operational risk management.
• Drive organizational alignment supporting NPI, manufacturing transfers, engineering changes, and production ramp activities.
Organizational Leadership
• Build and lead a world-class global Program Management organization through workforce planning, succession management, coaching, mentoring, and capability building.
• Establish Program Manager and Technical Program Manager career paths, competency models, and leadership development programs.
• Lead organizational design, resource planning, performance management, and continuous improvement.
• Foster a culture of accountability, execution excellence, collaboration, and transparency.
Business Leadership
• Partner with Product Management to align execution priorities with strategic business objectives and portfolio investments.
• Collaborate across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, Quality, and Customer Success to deliver integrated product solutions.
• Represent Fluence with executive leadership, strategic customers, suppliers, and industry organizations.
• Champion execution excellence, disciplined governance, and organizational effectiveness.
WHAT WILL OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE BRING TO FLUENCE?
• 20+ years of progressive leadership in Program Management, PMO, TPM, Product Operations, or engineering execution.
• 10+ years leading global Program Management organizations.
• Demonstrated success building enterprise PMOs and governance frameworks.
• Strong financial acumen with experience managing development portfolios and investment planning.
• Exceptional executive presence and cross-functional leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related technical discipline required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
• 20+ years of leadership in Program Management, PMO, TPM, or Product Operations.
• 10+ years leading global program organizations.
• Expertise in portfolio management, stage-gate governance, integrated planning, financial governance, and executive reporting.
• Experience leading complex hardware, software, manufacturing, and engineering development programs.
• Experience with NPI, engineering change management, configuration management, and product lifecycle execution.
